Critical points
The 180-day wait from the titre test blood draw is the longest mandatory wait of any Southeast Asian route. Start the process at least 9-10 months before your target arrival date.
The BAI SPSIC must be approved before you can book flights. Apply as soon as you have the titre test result.
Maximum 3 animals per import per owner per year. If you have more than 3 pets, this requires multiple trips.
The AHC must be the original document with OV signature and APHA stamp. Photocopies and electronic copies are not accepted.

Vietnam is the simplest Southeast Asian destination from the UK: no quarantine, no titre test, and no import permit for up to two pets. Thailand and Malaysia require quarantine and titre tests but have no extended waiting period beyond the test timing itself. The Philippines has both the quarantine and the 180-day wait, making it the most demanding destination in the region.
Airline comparison: UK to Philippines
| Airline | Route | Pet policy | Transit | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Philippine Airlines | LHR to MNL | Cargo only | Direct or 1 stop | Flag carrier. Primary choice for UK-Philippines moves. Live animal service |
| British Airways | LHR to MNL via connections | Cargo only | 1+ stops | Via IAG Cargo. Less direct than PAL from UK |

Philippine Airlines is the flag carrier and the standard choice for UK-Philippines pet moves. If space is not available on Philippine Airlines for your planned date, Qatar Airways via Doha and Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong are the most reliable alternatives.
The BAI SPSIC: what it is and how to apply
The BAI Sanitary and Phytosanitary Import Clearance is the Philippines import permit for live animals. Without an approved SPSIC, your pet cannot be imported. Applications are submitted online through the BAI portal at bai.gov.ph.
To apply, you will need: your pet’s microchip number and implantation date, current vaccination records (including rabies vaccination, at least 14 days old), the titre test result (at least 0.5 IU/ml, from a blood draw at least 30 days after vaccination), the details of the OV-endorsed AHC, your planned arrival date in the Philippines, and confirmation that your pet is at least 120 days old.
The BAI processes the SPSIC and issues a clearance document. This clearance number must appear on your AHC. Do not book cargo until you have SPSIC approval in hand.
The 3-animal limit applies per owner per year. If you are moving with more than 3 pets, contact the BAI directly before starting the process, as there is no simple workaround for this restriction.
