Uganda to Germany requires the full EU unlisted country process. Uganda is not on the EU listed country register, so the FAVN titre test, a mandatory 90-day wait from the successful blood draw date, and an EU health certificate from MAAIF …
Each step must be completed in a precise sequence. Start early. We manage every stage and deadline.

Within 10 days of travel to Germany.

Critical points to read before you book
The 90-day wait after a successful titre test is a hard legal minimum under EU regulations. It cannot be shortened. The clock runs from the blood draw date.
Microchip before vaccination. The sequence is critical. Chipping after vaccination invalidates the vaccination for EU entry purposes and the process restarts.
No EU-approved FAVN laboratories operate in Uganda. Samples must be shipped internationally to Europe or North America. Correct storage and courier selection are essential. Confirm your vet knows the process.
MAAIF endorsement of the health certificate may take several working days. Confirm the turnaround time before booking the vet appointment to ensure it fits within the 10-day certificate window.

Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa: the main cargo route
Ethiopian Airlines is one of Africa’s largest airlines and operates the most extensive cargo network on the continent. The Entebbe (EBB) to Addis Ababa (ADD) connection, with onward ADD-to-Frankfurt service, is the most established routing for Uganda-to-Germany pet moves.
Ethiopian Airlines Cargo has experience handling live animal freight on the ADD-FRA corridor. Addis Ababa Bole International Airport handles significant volumes of live animal transit. Confirm live animal cargo acceptance on both the EBB-ADD and ADD-FRA legs, in writing, before booking.
Brussels Airlines also operates a direct EBB-BRU service, which can be a useful alternative. From Brussels, the connection to Frankfurt or other German cities is straightforward. Your cargo agent can advise on which routing works better for your travel dates and crate size.
MAAIF and the health certificate process in Uganda
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is the Ugandan government body responsible for veterinary oversight and animal health certification. MAAIF-authorised veterinarians issue EU-format health certificates, and MAAIF endorses them before departure.
Not all veterinary clinics in Kampala or elsewhere in Uganda are authorised to issue EU export health certificates. The MAAIF can provide a list of authorised practitioners. MAAIF endorsement timing can vary, so ask in advance how long the process takes before scheduling your vet appointment.
The FAVN test sample must be shipped internationally from Uganda. Samples travel to EU-approved laboratories in Europe or North America. DHL and FedEx handle biological specimen shipping from Entebbe. Your vet should use the correct preservative medium and confirm courier requirements before drawing blood.
FAQ
Common questions about Uganda to Germany pet transport
There is no direct Entebbe-to-Frankfurt route for cargo. Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa (ADD) is the most direct option, operating a regular ADD-FRA service with live animal cargo capability. Brussels Airlines EBB-BRU direct, then BRU-FRA, is the other practical routing. Confirm live animal acceptance on your specific flight.
For air cargo transit through ADD, your pet does not enter Ethiopian territory for customs purposes. The cargo remains within the airside transit system. However, you should confirm the transit requirements with Ethiopian Airlines Cargo, as some routes require specific transit documentation even for cargo that does not clear customs.
No. Uganda does not have a veterinary equivalence agreement with the EU. It is an EU unlisted country for pet travel purposes, and the full unlisted process (FAVN titre test, 90-day mandatory wait, MAAIF-endorsed EU health certificate) applies to any pet moving to Germany or any other EU member state.
