Pet Transport from Thailand to Brazil: 2026 Guide
Thailand to Brazil is a long-haul route with no direct flights and a Brazil-side documentation requirement that trips up many owners: the MAPA trilingual health certificate. On the Thailand side, the DLD airport inspection and Form R.9 process is …

What this route typically costs
Critical points
Brazil requires a specific MAPA trilingual certificate format. A standard DLD health certificate will not be accepted at the Brazilian border. The certificate must be in Portuguese, English, and Thai, and must follow MAPA's approved template. Source a vet in Thailand with experience completing MAPA-format documents, or use a specialist agent.
The MAPA import permit must be obtained before the health certificate is finalised. The permit number must appear on the certificate. Do not get the certificate before the permit is confirmed.
Bangkok to Brazil has no direct flights. The total cargo transit time is typically 24 to 40 hours via a European or Middle Eastern hub. Choose the routing with the shortest hub layover and confirm live animal cargo acceptance on every segment.
The antiparasitic treatment must be within 15 days of the health certificate issue date, not the travel date. Time this carefully.
Approved carriers for this route
Not all airlines accept live animals. We book only with carriers that handle live animal cargo correctly.
Brazil's MAPA trilingual certificate: the requirement that causes most problems
Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) controls all animal imports. For companion pets, an import permit is needed before the health certificate can be finalised. The permit is applied for through MAPA’s SINDI platform (Integrated Foreign Trade System in Agriculture), either by you or by a licensed Brazilian agricultural agent.
Once the permit is confirmed, the health certificate in Thailand must follow MAPA’s specific trilingual format: Portuguese, English, and the language of the origin country. For pets from Thailand, the certificate must include a Thai-language section. Standard DLD health certificates are not accepted unless they match this format precisely.
Most vets in Bangkok are not familiar with MAPA’s certificate model. You either need a vet with MAPA documentation experience or a specialist agent who coordinates between the Thai vet and the Brazilian import side. Getting the format wrong results in the certificate being rejected at the Brazilian border.
The DLD export process in Thailand
Thailand’s DLD handles all pet exports through the Form R.9 airport inspection process. The inspection takes place approximately 48 hours before your flight at the cargo zone at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
At the inspection, the DLD officer checks the ISO microchip, reviews the vaccination and health records, and confirms the pet appears healthy. The Form R.9 export licence and the endorsed health certificate are issued at the end of the inspection.
Your health certificate from the DLD-authorised vet must include the MAPA permit number and follow the trilingual format. Coordinate with your vet well before the inspection date to ensure the certificate is correctly prepared. Errors at this stage can delay everything.
Routing Bangkok to Sao Paulo
There are no direct Bangkok to Brazil flights. The main routing options are: via Frankfurt (Lufthansa to FRA, then LATAM or Lufthansa to GRU, a route with an established freight partnership); via Dubai (Emirates to DXB, then to GRU, though heat embargoes at Dubai affect live animals June to September); via Amsterdam (KLM to AMS, then to GRU).
Total transit time Bangkok to Sao Paulo is typically 24 to 40 hours depending on the hub and layover. For your pet’s welfare, select the shortest available hub layover and confirm live animal cargo acceptance on all segments at the time of booking. Do not assume acceptance is automatic.
On arrival in Brazil, pets enter through Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU), Rio de Janeiro Galeao (GIG), or Brasilia (BSB). Confirm that MAPA live animal inspection facilities are available at your arrival airport.
