Every item must be verified before your pet can board. We track each one against current standards.
What this route typically costs
Critical points
The health certificate requires two steps after the vet examination: FSVO/BLV endorsement (one working day) then Panamanian Embassy authentication in Bern (2-3 working days). Start as early as the 10-day window allows or you risk running out of time before travel.
Pets under 4 months old cannot enter Panama under any circumstances. MIDA will refuse entry at PTY regardless of documentation.
The rabies vaccination must have been given at least 30 days before entry. Check the vaccination date in your pet's booklet against your intended arrival date, not departure date.
Carry the original authenticated certificate as hand luggage or with the cargo booking file. MIDA at PTY requires the original document.
Approved carriers for this route
Not all airlines accept live animals. We book only with carriers that handle live animal cargo correctly.
How Panama handles incoming pets
What experienced owners do
Check the airline’s crate size and labelling rules early. An undersized or wrongly labelled crate is a frequent reason pets are refused at check-in.
Ask about temperature embargoes for your travel window. Summer and winter cargo restrictions can rule out certain routes and dates entirely.
Microchip before you vaccinate. The microchip must be in place before the rabies shot for the vaccination to count, and getting this order wrong is the most common and costly mistake.
Use an official, government-authorised vet for the health certificate, not just your usual clinic. Many destinations only accept certificates signed by an approved vet.
