What does Sri Lanka require before your pet leaves?
- Export permit: Exports of any animal need a permit from the Controller of Export and Import on the recommendation of the DAPH Director General, under section 34 of the Animal Diseases Act. Applies to all animals, including dogs and cats.

Export - Department of Animal Production and Health, checked 5 October 2026 - Export health certificate: DAPH's Companion Animals procedure: submit the application with rabies vaccination records, the microchip number (depending on the importing country's requirements) and the destination's specific requirements (import permit, titre results, other vaccinations, parasite treatments) five working days before the certificate is issued to get an appointment; then document check, physical examination, fee payment and issue. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Sri Lanka.
Companion Animals: issuance of international veterinary health certificates for export, checked 1 October 2026 - Other conditions: The export certificate is valid for 7 days from issue, one certificate covers one animal, and meeting the importing country's requirements is the exporter's responsibility.
