Step by step
The South Korea to Indonesia pet import process
Each step must be completed in a precise sequence. Start early. We manage every stage and deadline.
1
Apply for the provincial rekomendasi recommendation, then national approval from the Directorate of Animal Health.
Responsible: Owner or agent, via karantinaindonesia.go.id.
Before booking vaccination or titre testing; the permit is valid 30 days from issue.
2
Confirm ISO microchip is implanted and scannable.
Responsible: Vet in South Korea.
Before the rabies vaccination.
3
Administer rabies vaccination and arrange the FAVN titre test 30 days later.
Once the permit is current and documentation is complete.
6
Clear quarantine on arrival.
Responsible: Barantin officials.
7-14 days for a compliant arrival.
Requirements
What your pet needs to enter Indonesia
Every item below must be in place before your pet can travel. We manage and verify each one.
Microchip
Required. ISO 11784/11785 standard. Must be implanted before the rabies vaccination.
Rabies vaccination
Required. Administered at least 30 days before arrival and no more than 12 months old on arrival. Full history required on the certificate.
Rabies titre test
Required. FAVN rabies antibody titre test, blood drawn 30 or more days after vaccination. Minimum result 0.5 IU/ml, from a laboratory Barantin recognises.
Quarantine
Mandatory on arrival. Standard 7 to 14 days for pets with a complete, compliant document set, held at a Barantin quarantine facility. Incomplete paperwork extends this substantially.
Import permit
Required. The rekomendasi (Surat Izin Pemasukan) is a two-stage permit: a provincial recommendation from the destination province's animal husbandry office, then national approval from the Directorate of Animal Health in Jakarta. Valid 30 days from issue. Apply via Barantin's karantinaindonesia.go.id portal.
Health certificate
Government-endorsed veterinary health certificate, valid 5 to 10 days from issue. Must record species-specific vaccination: DHLPP for dogs, FVRCP for cats.
Export permit (South Korea)
No South Korean export permit required for companion dogs and cats.
Costs
What this route typically costs
FAVN titre test at a Barantin-recognised laboratory: USD 150-250.
APQA-endorsed health certificate and vet examination: USD 100-180.
Direct cargo fee, Incheon to Jakarta: USD 400-800 depending on crate size.
Critical points to read before you book
The direct, frequent Incheon-Jakarta service doesn't shorten Barantin's process. The rekomendasi permit, titre test wait and quarantine period all still apply in full.
Apply for the rekomendasi permit before any vaccination or titre testing begins.
A pet cannot clear quarantine by arriving directly into Bali. Entry has to be through a mainland port, usually Jakarta.
Airlines
Carriers approved for this route
Not all airlines accept live animals on this route. We know which carriers to use and how to book.
KOREAN AIR
Korean Air
Flies Incheon to Jakarta non-stop, roughly seven hours, up to three times daily across the corridor's carriers. One of the busier direct Southeast Asia-bound routes out of Seoul.

GARUDA
Garuda Indonesia
Also operates the ICN-Jakarta route non-stop, a realistic second carrier with its own live-animal handling procedures at the Jakarta end.

What Indonesia requires
Bringing a pet into Indonesia involves a fair amount of documentation. Keep everything organised and check each item against the current requirements before you book.
Avoiding the common mistakes
If this is your first international move, consider an IPATA-registered pet transport agent. They handle the documents, airline booking and crate sizing, and can troubleshoot problems.
Get your pet used to the travel crate weeks in advance. A calm, crate-familiar animal travels far better than one meeting the crate for the first time at the airport.
Confirm live animal acceptance on every flight segment before booking. Not all aircraft or connections take pets, and cargo terms can differ leg to leg.
Keep every original document together and take copies. Border officials want originals, and a missing signature or date can hold up clearance.
