A move from Singapore to Iceland with a dog or cat is mostly about preparing the documents in the right order. Expect around 12-16 weeks of lead time to line up the documents and the fixed waiting periods. Factor in 14 days of quarantine at the destination.
You will need a rabies titre test, which adds a mandatory wait, so begin it as soon as possible. Read on for the requirements, timing and carrier options for this route.

Iceland: entry requirements
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Microchip | ISO 11784/11785 microchip required, implanted before the rabies vaccination. Source: MAST, mast.is. |
| Rabies vaccination | Primary rabies vaccination after the microchip. MAST also requires two leptospirosis doses 3 to 4 weeks apart, plus current distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza cover for dogs. Source: MAST guidance notes, 2026. |
| Rabies titre test | Required. Blood drawn at least 30 days after vaccination, minimum result 0.5 IU/ml. Singapore is named on MAST's own Category 1 list, alongside the EU member states, so once the result clears there is no further fixed wait before travel, the same treatment MAST gives Germany or France. This is a notably easier pre-export timeline than the reverse direction, since Singapore's own AVS does not extend Iceland the same courtesy. Source: MAST, mast.is, 2026. |
| Quarantine | Mandatory 14 days minimum at one of two approved isolation stations, Einangrunarstoedin i Reykjanesbae or Einangrunarstoedin Mosel, for every dog and cat entering Iceland, Category 1 origin or not. Source: MAST, mast.is, 2026. |
| Import permit | Required from MAST before travel, with the application form, a photo, the health certificate and lab results. Base fee is roughly ISK 40,000 (about EUR 270). Quarantine station space is booked separately and has limited intake dates. Source: MAST, mast.is, 2026. |
| Health certificate | MAST's Category 1 certificate (Form D1 or C1), completed by the AVS-accredited vet in Singapore and endorsed by AVS. |
Export requirements
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Export permit | AVS Export Licence required, applied for through the CITES e-Licence system before departure. |
| Health certificate | MAST's Category 1 certificate (Form D1 for dogs, Form C1 for cats), completed by an AVS-accredited vet in Singapore within 7 days of departure and endorsed by AVS as the competent authority of origin. Source: AVS, avs.nparks.gov.sg; MAST, mast.is, 2026. |

What Iceland requires
Avoiding the common mistakes
Ask about temperature embargoes for your travel window. Summer and winter cargo restrictions can rule out certain routes and dates entirely.
Book the titre test laboratory well ahead. Approved labs have limited slots and the sample takes time to process, so this is not something to leave to the final weeks.
Microchip before you vaccinate. The microchip must be in place before the rabies shot for the vaccination to count, and getting this order wrong is the most common and costly mistake.
Use an official, government-authorised vet for the health certificate, not just your usual clinic. Many destinations only accept certificates signed by an approved vet.
