Your pet needs a valid microchip (ISO standard), current rabies vaccination, and an official health certificate endorsed by NEBIH. Specific destination countries may require additional documents such as a titre test result, import permit, or specific certificate formats.
Hungary uses the EU Pet Travel Scheme. EU Pet Passport for EU/EFTA travel. For non-EU destinations, an EU AHC endorsed by NEBIH is required.
The best airline depends on your destination. Wizz Air operates cargo-only pet services from Hungary. Always confirm live animal acceptance with the airline before booking.
Your destination country may restrict certain breeds regardless of your origin. Commonly restricted breeds include American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier. Always check destination country rules for your specific breed.
Start at least 3 months before travel for most destinations. For Australia, New Zealand, or Mauritius, start 7-8 months ahead because of mandatory titre test waiting periods (180 days) and limited quarantine facility availability.
