Critical points

Dogs moving to Bali cannot arrive directly at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). Entry must be via Jakarta (CGK) or Surabaya (SUB). Your dog must complete the 30-day quarantine and then a further 2-week mainland stay before being moved to Bali. This is a firm policy, not a guideline.

The FAVN titre test must show a minimum 0.5 IU/ml result. If your pet's result is below this threshold, the vaccination course must be restarted and the process begins again. Use a BARANTAN-approved laboratory to avoid result disputes on arrival.

Indonesia import rules, explained

Indonesia asks for several pieces of paperwork, and they all need to line up. A checklist and a clear timeline are your best tools here.

Practical tips for this move

Use an official, government-authorised vet for the health certificate, not just your usual clinic. Many destinations only accept certificates signed by an approved vet.

If this is your first international move, consider an IPATA-registered pet transport agent. They handle the documents, airline booking and crate sizing, and can troubleshoot problems.

Get your pet used to the travel crate weeks in advance. A calm, crate-familiar animal travels far better than one meeting the crate for the first time at the airport.

Confirm live animal acceptance on every flight segment before booking. Not all aircraft or connections take pets, and cargo terms can differ leg to leg.

FAQ

Common questions about this route

No. Dogs cannot be imported directly to Bali. Entry must be via Jakarta (CGK) or Surabaya (SUB). After the 30-day BARANTAN quarantine and a further 2-week mainland period, BARANTAN authorises transfer to Bali. Plan for at least 6 weeks in mainland Indonesia before your dog can join you on the island. Source: BARANTAN Indonesia, 2026.
The FAVN (Fluorescent Antibody Virus Neutralisation) test measures your pet’s rabies antibody level. Blood is drawn at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination and sent to a BARANTAN-approved laboratory. The minimum acceptable result is 0.5 IU/ml. Your vet in Mexico can arrange the blood draw, but confirm the laboratory is on the BARANTAN approved list before sending the sample.
Allow at least 10-16 weeks. The FAVN test adds at minimum 30 days (vaccination to blood draw) plus laboratory turnaround time plus the 30-day wait before entry. The BARANTAN permit also needs processing time. Do not start without this lead time in mind.
