Which France rules depend on a pet coming from Mauritius?
The EU sorts non-EU countries into groups, and Mauritius falls in “Listed third countries and territories, Annex II to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/636”.
No rabies antibody titration test needed. Animal health certificate, microchip and rabies vaccination still required; entry through a travellers' point of entry with documentary and identity checks. Montenegro and Serbia were added by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1228. The EUR-Lex text of 2026/636 lists the USA as including American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. Official source
The rules that apply to every pet entering France, whatever the origin, are listed with their official sources in our France guide.
What does Mauritius require before your pet leaves?
Export health certificate: Export health certificates for pet dogs and cats are issued by the Division of Veterinary Services. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Mauritius. Veterinary Services, checked 1 October 2026
Export health certificate: International veterinary certificates are issued to the importing country's requirements before export, after the animal is inspected (Trade Unit, Export: tradeunit-export@govmu.org). Applies to dogs and cats leaving Mauritius. Livestock and Veterinary Division: Exports, checked 1 October 2026
Other conditions: Live animals, including pets, are inspected by the DVS before export certification. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Mauritius. Livestock and Veterinary Division: Exports, checked 1 October 2026
Allow at least 20 weeks from starting preparations to travel day. Some steps involve mandatory waiting periods that cannot be shortened, so starting early is the only way to keep to your schedule.
Check this before you plan around it, because the answer is worth about four months. Mauritius appears on the United Kingdom’s listed-country register (GOV.UK, read 2026-09-02), and a listed origin needs no rabies antibody test and no waiting period. The EU keeps its own equivalent register, which has tracked the British one since Brexit but is a separate instrument, and we could not read the EU annex directly to confirm Mauritius is on it. If it is, there is no test. If it is not, you need a titre with a three-month wait from the blood sampling date. Ask the destination’s veterinary authority and get the answer in writing before booking a laboratory slot or a flight.
Yes, cats can be transported from Mauritius to France. The same microchip, vaccination, and health certificate requirements apply as for dogs, though some rules (such as tapeworm treatment) apply to dogs only. Check the full requirements for cats with the destination authority.
