Microchip
ISO 11784/11785 microchip required, readable on arrival in the UK and again on arrival in Australia.
Rabies vaccination
Not administered in Kosovo for this route. The pet is vaccinated, or its vaccination renewed, once resident in the UK, since DAFF only recognises a vaccination given inside an approved country.
Rabies titre test
Required. A Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT) at a DAFF-approved laboratory, minimum 0.5 IU/ml, carried out during the UK residency period rather than in Kosovo. Both the RNATT's 12-month validity window and DAFF's 180-day residency clock run from this UK-based test, not from anything done before departure.
Quarantine
Mandatory minimum 10 days at the Mickleham Post Entry Quarantine Facility in Melbourne, the only DAFF quarantine site in the country, weekday arrivals only. The 10-day minimum applies where an official government vet confirms the pet's identity before the RNATT blood draw; skip that step and the minimum stretches to 30 days.
Import permit
DAFF import permit applied for through BICON, the Biosecurity Import Conditions system, during the UK residency period. Processing typically takes 20 to 30 days.
Health certificate
DAFF-format health certificate, valid 5 days from issue, issued by a UK vet shortly before the Australia-bound flight, not by the FVA-endorsed vet in Pristina.
Export permit (Kosovo)
No standalone export permit separate from the certification process. The Agjencia e Ushqimit dhe Veterinarise (Kosovo Food and Veterinary Agency, FVA) endorses the export health certificate that clears a pet to leave Pristina for the staging flight.
Government endorsement
FVA endorsement on the certificate is required before an airline will accept the paperwork at Pristina. FVA publishes no fixed fee or turnaround time, so confirm both directly with a registered vet.

Wizz Air, the dominant low-cost carrier out of Pristina, carries no pets whatsoever beyond a certified assistance dog booked 48 hours ahead. It was never an option for the Kosovo-to-UK leg on this site, and it isn't one here either.
Kosovo has no direct path to Australia at any price. Every plan starts with 180 consecutive days somewhere DAFF has already approved, chosen before a single flight is booked.

Check the airline’s crate size and labelling rules early. An undersized or wrongly labelled crate is a frequent reason pets are refused at check-in.
Ask about temperature embargoes for your travel window. Summer and winter cargo restrictions can rule out certain routes and dates entirely.
Book the titre test laboratory well ahead. Approved labs have limited slots and the sample takes time to process, so this is not something to leave to the final weeks.
Microchip before you vaccinate. The microchip must be in place before the rabies shot for the vaccination to count, and getting this order wrong is the most common and costly mistake.
