Airlines on this route
Choosing between the Istanbul and Frankfurt routing from Almaty
Almaty to Prague Vaclav Havel Airport has no direct pet cargo service. The two practical options are Turkish Airlines via Istanbul (IST) and Air Astana via Frankfurt (FRA).
Via Istanbul: Turkish Airlines Cargo operates ALA-IST, and IST-PRG connections run several times weekly. Total cargo journey time is approximately 8-10 hours including transit at Istanbul. Istanbul Airport handles large volumes of Caucasus live animal cargo regularly.
Via Frankfurt: If Air Astana Cargo accepts live animals on the ALA-FRA segment, routing via Frankfurt is possible. From FRA, Lufthansa connects to Prague. Total journey time is approximately 10-13 hours depending on connection time at Frankfurt. Frankfurt’s Animal Lounge is one of the best live animal transit facilities in Europe.
Both options work. Confirm live animal cargo acceptance on your specific flight dates with the cargo agent. During summer months, temperature embargo conditions may affect the IST or ALA legs more than the FRA leg.
Documentation the SVA checks at Prague cargo terminal
On arrival at Prague Vaclav Havel cargo terminal, the SVA border vet works through the import documentation in order. They scan the microchip and match it against the 15-digit number on the AHC. They check the microchip implantation date is earlier than the vaccination date. They review the vaccination record to confirm it is current. They examine the FAVN titre test report: they look at the blood draw date, the laboratory (confirming it is EU-approved), and the result (must be 0.5 IU/ml or above). They then calculate that 90 days have elapsed from the blood draw date to the AHC travel date.
Finally, they check the AHC issue date to confirm it falls within 10 days of the travel date. If all six checks pass, the pet is released from the cargo terminal.
