What does a pet from Japan need to enter Poland?
Poland follows EU Implementing Regulation 2026/636 as an EU member state. Japan’s approved status means no titre test and no titre-related waiting period apply.
The requirements are an ISO 11784/11785 microchip implanted before the first rabies vaccination, a current rabies vaccination with a 21-day post-primary wait, and an EU-format Animal Health Certificate (AHC, Annex I for listed countries) endorsed by Japan’s AQS at a designated Animal Quarantine Station. The certificate is valid for 10 days from endorsement.
Poland has a regulated list of fighting breeds under domestic law. Breeds such as Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Tosa Inu require a special permit to keep and move in Poland. If your dog falls within this category, contact the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs for guidance before booking.
Which airlines carry pets from Japan to Poland?
LOT Polish Airlines is the standout carrier for this route. LOT operates direct flights from Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Warsaw Chopin (WAW) using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This is the most direct routing from Japan to Poland and avoids a hub connection. Confirm live animal cargo acceptance with LOT Cargo at the time of booking, as cargo policies can vary.
If LOT cargo space is unavailable, Lufthansa Cargo on the NRT-FRA long-haul leg connects to Warsaw via Lufthansa or LOT onward services. KLM Cargo covers NRT to Amsterdam (AMS) with AMS-WAW connections.
