First your own vet examines the pet and completes the CVI in the current Brazilian model, recording the rabies vaccination: required for pets over 90 days old, with a primary dose given at least 21 days before travel (a booster administered while the previous dose was still valid counts immediately).

Then the Regional Veterinary Office. DAFM’s government vet signs and stamps the certificate, converting it into the official document VIGIAGRO reads on arrival. RVO appointments are bookable but not same-day affairs, so slot the endorsement into the final week deliberately rather than hopefully.

One planning bonus for anyone moving temporarily: a CVI issued in Brazil for the return leg gives a 60-day window to re-enter Brazil with the same pet, useful for owners making a staged move.

Aer Lingus’s position is absolute: no cabin pets, anywhere, ever. Its animals travel through IAG Cargo (the same system as British Airways), booked by an approved agent, minimum age ten weeks, with snub-nosed breeds refused. For a big dog, that cargo pipeline via a European hub is the realistic booking, and it works well.

For a cat or small dog, the accompanied option via Lisbon is usually kinder and cheaper: TAP takes pets up to 8kg with a soft carrier in the cabin from Dublin through to Brazil, and heavier animals in the hold. Air France via Paris, KLM via Amsterdam and Iberia via Madrid do the same job; whichever you choose, confirm live-animal acceptance on both legs and check the summer heat picture at the Brazilian end, where December to March embargoes are the norm for hold travel.
