Overview
The main airline fact to know first: Garuda Indonesia does not accept pets as cargo. For the Jakarta to Athens route, you are working with Singapore Airlines Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, or KLM via their respective hubs. Beyond the logistics, Greece applies the full EU unlisted country protocol. That means FAVN titre test, 90-day wait, and an EU Animal Health Certificate before your pet steps off the plane.

Read before you book

⚠ BARANTAN has transitioned to the iQFast online system for export applications. Paper applications are no longer accepted at most Indonesian ports of export.
⚠ The EU AHC must be issued within 10 days before arrival in Greece, not 10 days before departure. Calculate timing around the expected arrival date.

The BARANTAN iQFast application
Badan Karantina Indonesia manages all animal quarantine matters in Indonesia, including export health certificates. Since mid-2023, applications are processed through the iQFast online portal. Start the application at least 14 days before travel, because the BARANTAN officer needs to inspect the animal before issuing the certificate.
The certificate documents the microchip number, rabies vaccination, and health status. Your vet will complete most of the supporting paperwork; BARANTAN reviews it and carries out a physical inspection before issuing the final export document.
Arriving in Greece: the approved entry point
Pets entering Greece as part of the EU must arrive at an approved entry point with a TRACES-registered inspection facility. Athens International (ATH) handles most international pet cargo arrivals. Your cargo agent will handle the TRACES notification and coordinate the inspection on arrival.
Provided the AHC is complete and current, and the 90-day wait has been observed, no quarantine applies. The arrival inspection is administrative rather than a welfare hold.
FAQ
Common questions
Garuda Indonesia does not accept pets as cargo, so the main options are Singapore Airlines Cargo (via Singapore), Qatar Airways Cargo (via Doha), or KLM Cargo (via Amsterdam). Singapore Airlines has a strong record for live animal handling and is the preferred choice for most pet transport agents working the CGK corridor. Whichever you choose, confirm the connecting carrier also accepts live animals before booking.
The blood draw must be done by a vet in Indonesia, but the sample must be sent to an EU-approved laboratory for analysis. Not all Indonesian laboratories are on the EU-approved list. Your vet or a specialist pet transport agent can confirm which laboratories in Indonesia, or in Singapore if you transit there, are approved. The result must show 0.5 IU/ml or above, and the 90-day wait starts from the date of that blood draw.
No quarantine, provided all documentation is correct. Greece, as an EU member, applies the standard EU import rules. For unlisted countries like Indonesia, the safeguard is the FAVN titre test and 90-day wait, not a quarantine on arrival. If documents are incomplete, the pet can be detained at the owner’s expense while issues are resolved.
At minimum: ISO microchip implanted first, then rabies vaccination. Dogs should also be current on distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, and leptospirosis. The BARANTAN health certificate will ask about all vaccinations. For Greece specifically, the FAVN titre test result is the critical addition beyond standard vaccinations.
