Requirements

Indonesia entry requirements

Every item below must be in place before your pet can enter. We verify and track each one.

Microchip
Required. ISO 11784/11785 standard, implanted before the rabies vaccination is given.
Rabies vaccination
Required, current, administered at least 30 days before arrival and no more than 12 months old on arrival.
Rabies titre test
Required. FAVN rabies antibody titre test, blood drawn 30 or more days post-vaccination, minimum result 0.5 IU/ml, from a laboratory Barantin recognises.
Quarantine
Mandatory on arrival, 7 to 14 days for a complete and compliant document set, held at a Barantin quarantine facility. Incomplete paperwork extends this well beyond that window.
Import permit
Required. The rekomendasi (Surat Izin Pemasukan): a provincial recommendation followed by national approval from the Directorate of Animal Health in Jakarta. Valid 30 days from issue. Apply via karantinaindonesia.go.id.
Health certificate
Government-endorsed veterinary health certificate valid 5 to 10 days from issue. Species-specific vaccination required: DHLPP for dogs, FVRCP for cats.
Leaving India

Export requirements

Export permit
No formal export permit as such, but AQCS export clearance (the No Objection Certificate) is mandatory before a pet can leave India.
Health certificate
Health certificate from a DAHD-authorised official veterinarian confirming freedom from infectious disease and full vaccination history. Lodge documents at the AQCS regional office (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata) at least 7 days before departure. The resulting export certificate is valid only 10 days from issue.

Critical points

The AQCS export certificate is valid only 10 days from issue, and documents must be lodged at least 7 days before departure. Time this appointment against a confirmed cargo booking, not a hoped-for one.

The rekomendasi permit expires 30 days after issue. Fix travel dates only once the permit is in hand.

Dogs must be at least 6 months old at entry into Indonesia; flat-faced breeds may face additional cargo restrictions from some carriers on the India leg.

Bali has no direct pet entry point. Expect a mainland quarantine stop, usually Jakarta, before onward domestic transfer.

The rules for bringing a pet into Indonesia

Indonesia has a detailed set of import rules, and each one needs to be satisfied before travel. None of it is unusual, but the order and timing are what catch people out.

How to keep this move on track

Use an official, government-authorised vet for the health certificate, not just your usual clinic. Many destinations only accept certificates signed by an approved vet.

If this is your first international move, consider an IPATA-registered pet transport agent. They handle the documents, airline booking and crate sizing, and can troubleshoot problems.

Get your pet used to the travel crate weeks in advance. A calm, crate-familiar animal travels far better than one meeting the crate for the first time at the airport.

Confirm live animal acceptance on every flight segment before booking. Not all aircraft or connections take pets, and cargo terms can differ leg to leg.

FAQ

Common questions about this route

Lodge your documents with the AQCS regional office at least 7 days before your flight. Since the resulting export certificate is valid for only 10 days, this appointment should be booked against a confirmed flight date, not an estimated one.
Only once it meets both countries’ minimum ages. AQCS requires the rabies vaccination to be at least one month old and dogs to be at least 3 months old at export. Indonesia separately requires dogs to be at least 6 months old on arrival, which is the binding constraint for a young puppy.
AQCS has regional offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, so the export side does not require travel to a single city. The airline departure, however, is realistically from BOM or DEL for the strongest cargo connections to Jakarta via Singapore, Doha or Dubai.
A booster vaccination is required, followed by a fresh 30-day wait before a repeat blood draw. This adds roughly two months to the timeline, so factor in a buffer if your pet has never had a rabies titre test before.
Yes. Barantin’s standard is 7 to 14 days for a complete, compliant document set, regardless of origin country. Missing or incorrect documentation, including an expired AQCS or DAHD certificate, extends the quarantine well beyond that.
Mumbai and Delhi both connect well through Singapore Airlines Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo or Emirates SkyCargo. Singapore Airlines gives the shortest final leg into CGK. Owners outside these two cities generally need a domestic connection to BOM or DEL first.
