Critical points

Guyana is not on either of GB's listed-country tables, so the titre test and the 3-calendar-month wait from the blood draw date, not the result date, are mandatory. There is no shortcut through a listed-country route.

Guyana also sits on the CDC's list of high-risk countries for dog rabies. That has no bearing on GB entry, but it does mean American Airlines Cargo won't accept a new dog booking originating there, which rules out a Miami or JFK routing for dogs (cats aren't affected). British Airways' direct-ish St Lucia service sidesteps the issue entirely.

BA2159 operates twice weekly, not daily. Missing the flight after the 3-month wait ends can add most of a week to the timeline, so book cargo space as soon as the wait's end date is fixed.

The GLDA export certificate itself is quick, 4 working days, and cheap. It confirms the pet is healthy and legally exportable; it has no bearing on whether the GB titre test and wait have been met. Those two processes run on separate clocks.

Avoiding the common mistakes

Work backwards from your travel date and add a buffer. Fixed waiting periods mean a single slipped appointment can push the whole move back by weeks.

Check the airline’s crate size and labelling rules early. An undersized or wrongly labelled crate is a frequent reason pets are refused at check-in.

Ask about temperature embargoes for your travel window. Summer and winter cargo restrictions can rule out certain routes and dates entirely.

Book the titre test laboratory well ahead. Approved labs have limited slots and the sample takes time to process, so this is not something to leave to the final weeks.
