Uganda’s Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is the competent authority for live animal imports. You need a MAAIF import permit before your pet travels, and you should start the application process at least eight to ten weeks in advance. On arrival at Entebbe International Airport (EBB), MAAIF veterinary officers carry out a documentation and health check. For pets arriving from Germany, a recognised rabies-controlled country, the inspection is a compliance check rather than a lengthy quarantine procedure. Compliant arrivals with correct documents are cleared without routine quarantine.
One practical note: EBB is located about 40 kilometres south of Kampala, on the northern shore of Lake Victoria. Factor the transfer logistics into your plans.
