Pet Transport from Germany to Pakistan

Book at least three working days before departure, and expect to bring the animal itself. German district offices are clear that the pet must attend so the official vet can examine it and establish identity by reading the microchip. This is not a paperwork-only visit.

Fees are set district by district rather than nationally, and the spread is startling. Munich charges 8.50 euros for up to three certificates for one owner; one Berlin district charges between 41 and 615 euros depending on the time required. Same country, same document. Ask your own office when you book.

The document you hand over should be Pakistan’s certificate model, obtained by you in advance. If you are unsure which submission channel your district uses, ask: practice varies between Laender and districts, and the systems used for imports are not always the ones used for exports.

Lufthansa does not serve Pakistan, and neither Frankfurt nor Munich has a nonstop to Karachi, Islamabad or Lahore. Every option connects, and the three realistic hubs each carry a catch.

Qatar Airways via Doha takes pets as checked baggage or cargo with generous limits (up to 75kg animal plus container at most stations, containers to 300cm total). One rule shapes the itinerary: a pet connecting from another airline’s flight cannot travel as checked baggage and must be booked as air cargo instead, which changes both the price and the handling. Building the whole journey on Qatar Airways aircraft avoids that, and is easy from Frankfurt or Munich.

Emirates via Dubai looks attractive until you read the baggage rule: checked-baggage carriage is available only on itineraries starting in Dubai and under 17 hours. A German departure therefore becomes an Emirates SkyCargo freight booking, priced from 500 to 1,150 US dollars, with anything over 300cm total container dimensions going as cargo in any case. Animals never travel in the Emirates cabin.

Turkish Airlines via Istanbul is the only one of the three offering a real cabin option, for a pet and carrier up to 8kg in a container no more than 23 by 30 by 40 centimetres. For a cat or a small dog that is the gentlest way to make this journey.

Pakistan asks for no rabies titre from any origin, so nothing about Germany’s EU membership adds a step on the way out. Owners familiar with EU rules sometimes assume otherwise and start a serology chain they do not need.

The direction that does matter is the return. If the pet may come back to the EU later, the titre and its waiting period become relevant for that journey, and doing the blood test in the EU before departure is far simpler than arranging it from Pakistan afterwards. It is worth a conversation with your vet at the same appointment, even though it forms no part of the Pakistani requirements.
