A move from Germany to Macau with a dog or cat is mostly about preparing the documents in the right order. There is a fair amount of paperwork here, so plan on around 18-24 weeks. There is no routine quarantine, provided the paperwork is in order.
A rabies titre test is part of the process, and its waiting period drives the whole timeline. Read on for the requirements, timing and carrier options for this route.

Macau: entry requirements
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Microchip | Required. ISO 11784/11785 compliant, implanted before the rabies vaccination is given. |
| Rabies vaccination | Required. Given after the microchip. IAM requires the vaccination to be current and clearly dated on the health record. |
| Rabies titre test | Required. Germany is not on Macau's short list of rabies-free exempt origins, the same position France, Canada and the UK are in on this site's other Macau routes. Blood drawn at least 30 days after vaccination, minimum result 0.5 IU/mL, then a further wait of around three months from the blood draw date before entry. Source: Instituto para os Assuntos Municipais (IAM) pre-entry inspection requirements, as summarised via gov.mo and PetTravel.com, 2026. |
| Quarantine | No mandatory quarantine for pets that meet the pre-entry requirements and pass an on-arrival inspection by an IAM veterinary surgeon. IAM removed the previous 30-day mandatory quarantine for compliant dogs and cats with effect from 12 June 2026. Source: Macao SAR Government Portal, 'IAM optimises inspection policy for imported dogs and cats, exempting eligible ones from mandatory quarantine from 12 June,' gov.mo, 2026. |
| Import permit | Import Licence for Live Animals (PS-1092), applied for through the Macao SAR Government Portal. IAM typically issues the licence within 3 working days, but it is only valid for 30 days once granted. |
| Health certificate | Official veterinary Health Certificate of Animal (form referenced as PS-1086 on the Macao SAR Government Portal), issued shortly before travel and covering microchip, vaccination and titre test results. |
Export requirements
| Requirement | Detail |

| Veterinary inspection | Pre-export clinical check by an authorised veterinarian (Amtstierarzt), covering the microchip, vaccination record and general fitness to travel. |
| Government endorsement | Certificate endorsed by the Landesamt or Kreisveterinäramt, the state or district veterinary office, under the oversight of the federal food and agriculture ministry, BMEL. |
| Health certificate | Official health certificate issued by the district veterinary office, reformatted to match the health certificate IAM requires (the PS-1086 model), issued close to the travel date. |

Getting the details right
Ask about temperature embargoes for your travel window. Summer and winter cargo restrictions can rule out certain routes and dates entirely.
Book the titre test laboratory well ahead. Approved labs have limited slots and the sample takes time to process, so this is not something to leave to the final weeks.
Microchip before you vaccinate. The microchip must be in place before the rabies shot for the vaccination to count, and getting this order wrong is the most common and costly mistake.
Use an official, government-authorised vet for the health certificate, not just your usual clinic. Many destinations only accept certificates signed by an approved vet.
