Schiphol's live animal handling and what to expect on arrival
Schiphol is one of Europe’s busiest cargo hubs for live animals. The NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) posts veterinary officers at Schiphol’s Animal Hotel, which is part of the broader cargo facilities complex. On arrival, your pet is brought to the Animal Hotel, where the NVWA officer checks the EU health certificate, the titre test result, the vaccination records, and microchip identity.
For a pet that arrives with all documents complete and the 90-day wait met, the inspection is a formality. Delays happen when documents are incomplete or the titer result is missing. Some owners send documents ahead of the flight so the officer can review them in advance. Your pet transport agent can arrange this.
What 'EU unlisted' means for Tbilisi pet owners
Georgia’s EU Association Agreement covers trade, visa liberalisation, and some regulatory alignment. It does not include an equivalence agreement for pet travel. From the EU’s perspective, Georgia is treated the same as any other unlisted country for the purposes of Regulation 2026/131.
That means the full process applies: microchip first, then vaccination, then a FAVN titre test at an EU-approved laboratory (blood drawn at least 30 days after vaccination), then a 90-day wait from the blood draw date. After that, the NFA-endorsed EU health certificate issued within 10 days of travel completes the documentation. There is no simpler path from Georgia to an EU member state.
