Planning around the 90-day wait when your move is urgent
The most common frustration for people moving from Georgia to Italy is discovering the 90-day rule after they have already booked flights. If your move is coming up in three months, and your pet has not had a titre test done, you cannot bring them directly. Options at that point are: travel separately and have a trusted contact oversee the titre process in Georgia, or board your pet in an approved EU country once the titre is drawn and the 90-day wait runs out.
If your move is six months or more away, start the titre process as soon as you know you are going. Draw the blood, submit to the lab, and let the 90-day clock run down during the planning phase. By the time you are ready to travel, the wait may already be satisfied.
Rome or Milan: which entry point suits your Italian move
Rome Fiumicino (FCO) handles a large volume of live animal cargo and is well set up for long-haul imports. If your Italian destination is central or southern Italy, FCO makes sense. Milan Malpensa (MXP) serves northern Italy and the wider Lombardy region. If you are moving to Milan, Turin, Genoa, or the north more broadly, MXP is more convenient and avoids an onward domestic transfer.
From Tbilisi, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul connects to both FCO and MXP. The actual availability of live animal cargo on specific dates needs confirmation with the carrier. Book four to six weeks ahead; live animal space on European cargo routes is limited and sells out.
