Airlines

Carriers on this route

Not all airlines accept live animals on this route. We know every carrier policy for this corridor.

KLM via Amsterdam
KLM connects Paris CDG to Amsterdam (AMS), with KLM direct service AMS to Vilnius (VNO). Air France-KLM Group makes single booking straightforward. Cabin pets under 8kg and live animal cargo available. A practical two-leg option.
Cargo and Cabin
LOT Polish Airlines via Warsaw
Air France operates CDG to Warsaw (WAW), with LOT Polish Airlines connecting WAW to Vilnius (VNO). LOT is the main carrier on the WAW-VNO leg. The CDG-WAW-VNO routing is a reliable option with cabin and cargo availability.
Cargo and Cabin
Lufthansa via Frankfurt
Air France connects CDG to Frankfurt (FRA), with Lufthansa or partner connections FRA to VNO. Frankfurt Animal Lounge at FRA handles live animal cargo. A viable alternative for cargo pets.
Cargo and Cabin

Ryanair operates some France-Vilnius routes from secondary airports. Cabin pets only, small animals under weight limits. No cargo or hold service. Only suitable for cats and very small dogs.

Critical points

Lithuania requires muzzling and lead control in public for certain breeds: American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, American Staffordshire Terrier, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Inu, and crossbreeds. These dogs are not banned from entry but must comply with local handling rules. Contact the SFVS at vmvt.lt before travelling with these breeds.

Vilnius Airport (VNO) has adequate live animal cargo facilities but is smaller than Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Confirm cargo capacity with the airline before booking, particularly in peak travel seasons.

Budget carrier cabin pet policies allow only small animals. For medium or large dogs, a full-service carrier with cargo acceptance is required.

The EU pet passport issued in France must be by a veterinaire habilitee. Confirm your vet holds this status.

Lithuania's breed handling rules: not a ban, but a requirement

Lithuania distinguishes itself from Latvia by not banning Pit Bull-type dogs outright, but instead requiring specific handling conditions for potentially dangerous breeds. Under Lithuanian animal welfare legislation, breeds including American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, and Tosa Inu must be muzzled and on a lead in public places. Their crossbreeds fall under the same rule.

If you are relocating to Lithuania with one of these breeds, you will need to comply with these handling requirements from arrival onwards. The State Food and Veterinary Service (SFVS) at vmvt.lt can confirm the current rules for your specific breed. Some municipalities in Lithuania add local restrictions on top of the national rules.

For all other breeds, Lithuania’s requirements are those of any EU country: valid EU pet passport with ISO microchip and current rabies vaccination.

Routing from Paris CDG to Vilnius

There is no direct Paris-Vilnius scheduled service at present. The two main connection options are Amsterdam with KLM and Warsaw with LOT.

KLM via Amsterdam is particularly smooth for Air France-KLM passengers. CDG to AMS is a 1.5-hour flight, and AMS to VNO is about 1.5-2 hours. KLM Cargo handles live animals professionally on both legs. For small pets in cabin, the connection at Amsterdam Schiphol is manageable.

The LOT via Warsaw option makes sense if you want a different carrier or if your departure point in France connects more conveniently to Warsaw. Air France flies CDG-WAW and LOT operates regular WAW-VNO services. LOT accepts cabin pets on European routes. Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) is a well-organised transit hub for Baltic connections.

FAQ

Common questions

No. France and Lithuania are both EU member states. The EU Pet Travel Scheme does not require a rabies antibody titre test for intra-EU movements. A current rabies vaccination in a valid EU pet passport is sufficient. Source: EU Regulation 576/2013.
Lithuania requires muzzling and lead use in public for American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Inu, and their crossbreeds. These breeds are not banned from entry. Contact the SFVS (vmvt.lt) for the current list.
Both are solid options. KLM via Amsterdam is the most integrated booking if you are flying Air France from CDG, as Air France-KLM offers single itinerary booking. LOT via Warsaw suits owners who prefer the Polish hub or are based in a region of France with better Warsaw connections. The actual journey time is similar.
Yes, if under 8kg including the carrier. Most airlines on this route (KLM, LOT, Lufthansa partners) accept small cabin pets. The EU pet passport is the only travel document needed. No titre test, no quarantine.
