Note on North Cyprus: Larnaca and Paphos are in the Republic of Cyprus, which is an EU member state. Everything on this page, including the no titre test answer and the four to six week timeline, applies to the Republic only. A pet moving from the TRNC does not travel under EU pet travel rules and should be planned on unlisted-origin rules instead: a rabies antibody blood test on a sample taken at least 30 days after vaccination, then a three month wait counted from the date the blood was taken. That is months, not weeks. Confirm the position with APHA and the Department of Veterinary Services before you spend anything.
The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 bans four types of dog from entering the UK: Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Brasileiro. The XL Bully is separately restricted in England and Wales since 2024 and needs a Certificate of Exemption. The assessment is made on the dog physical type, not on its pedigree or its papers, so a cross-breed that resembles one of these types can be judged to be one. Cyprus law also bans the American Pit Bull Terrier and the Japanese Tosa. If there is any chance your dog could be assessed as one of these types, confirm its status with APHA before you book anything.
No airline will carry your pet in the cabin into Great Britain. Pets have to travel as manifest cargo, and the only exceptions are a chartered private plane or a recognised guide or assistance dog. Entry must be on an approved route with an APHA-approved transport company, and approved air routes land in England or Scotland only. Check the approved routes list on GOV.UK before you book the flight, not after. Arriving outside an approved route can mean quarantine at your own cost, which GOV.UK gives as up to four months, or refusal of entry. Republic of Cyprus vs North Cyprus: which rules apply?
Pets originating from the Republic of Cyprus fall under EU pet travel rules and use the AHC or valid EU pet passport for GB entry. This is the standard route for anyone based in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, or Paphos.
North Cyprus (TRNC) is not an EU member state and is not recognised as such for pet travel purposes. If your pet has documentation or residence in the TRNC, you cannot use the EU rules for GB entry that the rest of this page describes.
Plan instead on the unlisted-origin rules, which are the ones Great Britain applies to any origin that is not on its listed countries list: a rabies antibody blood test on a sample taken at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination, then a three month wait counted from the date the blood was taken, not the date the result came back. That turns a few weeks into several months, and it is the number to budget your move around. Contact the Department of Veterinary Services in the Republic and the UK APHA to confirm your own case before you commit to dates.

The tapeworm treatment: planning the timing from Larnaca
The 24-120 hour tapeworm window is the detail that requires the most planning on this route. Your vet must administer Praziquantel and record the exact date and time in your AHC or EU pet passport.
Work backwards from the landing time, not the departure time. The window is 24 to 120 hours before arrival in Great Britain, which is one to five days. Land at 4pm on a Friday and the treatment has to fall between 4pm the previous Sunday and 4pm the Thursday.
That is a wide window, and it is still the thing owners get wrong, because they book the vet around the flight rather than around the arrival. Treat the 120 hours as a hard edge and leave yourself a buffer for delays. If the delay happens while you can still reach a vet, a fresh treatment and a fresh certificate entry puts it right. If it happens once the pet is in the air, there is no fix at the border: the pet can be held in quarantine at your cost, which GOV.UK gives as up to four months.
Check when you book that the same practice can issue the health certificate, since it must be signed within 10 days of travel and a second appointment elsewhere is time you may not have.
