Importing Your Pet to Taiwan
Moderate to importTaiwan’s BAPHIQ (Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine) administers pet imports. BAPHIQ classifies origin countries into groups with different requirements. From most origins, pets require microchip, rabies vaccination, a titre test, and a BAPHIQ-approved health certificate.
Quarantine is required on arrival. The standard period is 7 days for compliant pets from approved origins. Pets from higher-risk origins may face 21 days quarantine. Quarantine must be pre-booked with BAPHIQ before travel.
An import permit from BAPHIQ is required before your pet travels. The permit application process takes 2-4 weeks. Do not book flights until the permit is confirmed.

Import permit and quarantine booking
Apply for an import permit from BAPHIQ before booking flights. The application requires: microchip number, vaccination records, titre test results (if required for your origin), and the intended entry date range.
Once the permit is issued, it is valid for a limited period. Quarantine must also be pre-booked at an approved BAPHIQ facility. Most quarantine facilities are at or near Taipei Taoyuan International Airport. The quarantine cost is paid by the owner on arrival.
Approved origins and titre test requirements
Taiwan categorises countries by their rabies status. For pets from countries without rabies (such as the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and others), the process is simpler: microchip, valid rabies vaccination, and health certificate. Titre test may not be required from some approved origins.
For pets from countries where rabies is present (most of Asia, Africa, South America), a titre test is required with a minimum result of 0.5 IU/ml. A waiting period applies after a successful test. Check the BAPHIQ website for the current approved country list and requirements for your specific origin.
