Importing Your Pet to Poland

Moderate to import

Poland is an EU member state following the EU Pet Travel Scheme. The Main Veterinary Inspectorate (Glowny Inspektorat Weterynarii, GIW) handles import controls. For EU/EFTA pets: EU Pet Passport. For pets from the UK, US, and other non-EU origins: an EU AHC endorsed by the origin country’s official veterinary authority.

Poland borders several non-EU countries including Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia, and has experience handling pet imports from these origins. Warsaw Chopin Airport has official veterinary check facilities for imported animals.

Poland does not require routine quarantine for pets arriving with correct documentation. The process is aligned with EU standards and the documentation requirements are clear.

Pets arriving from Ukraine, Belarus, and CIS countries

Poland handles a significant number of pet movements from Eastern European non-EU countries. Pets from Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova must comply with EU third-country import rules, including an endorsed health certificate, valid rabies vaccination, and in many cases a rabies titre test with a 3-month waiting period.

Poland has dedicated border inspection facilities at road, rail, and air entry points for animals from non-EU Eastern European countries. Pre-notification of GIW is required for all third-country pet imports.

EU Pet Passport rules at Poland entry

For pets from EU/EEA countries with valid EU Pet Passports, entry into Poland is straightforward. The passport must show: valid rabies vaccination, ISO microchip, and a rabies titre test if coming from certain origins.

If travelling from an EU country where your pet was issued an EU Pet Passport, ensure the vaccination record is up to date. An expired rabies vaccination in the EU Pet Passport can cause delays at the border.
