Health certificate

  • Pets need an original export health certificate (international health certificate) issued by the official authority of the country of origin, stating current vaccinations, internal and external deworming and the animal's state of health (SENASA press note, 16 April 2025). The owner also submits an application with owner and pet details.
  • Per UK APHA notes for guidance 3919NFG (revised 15 October 2025) for exports from Great Britain: the certificate must be legalised by the UK Legalisation Office and the legalised document must travel with the animal. SENASA's own pages do not mention legalisation. Applies to dogs and cats exported from Great Britain.

Official sources differThe Peruvian Consulate General in Bilbao (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) page https://www.consulado.pe/es/Bilbao/tramite/Paginas/Otros/Ingreso-Peru-Mascotas.aspx says for certificates issued in Spain that no consular visa is needed ("No es necesaria la visación consular"). That concerns consular visas, not UK legalisation, so follow the UK requirement for GB exports.
  • Per UK specimen certificate 3919EHC version 4 (exporting-government guidance, cleared 1996): the clinical examination for GB exports must be no more than 96 hours before the proposed export date. SENASA's pages state no examination window. Applies to dogs and cats exported from Great Britain to Peru.
    Specimen certificate 3919EHC version 4 (cleared 10 October 1996), checked 1 October 2026
  • Certificate validity: SENASA Peru's own pages state no validity period for the origin certificate (they are silent), so this rests on exporting-government guidance. Per SENASA Argentina's destination requirements for Peru (undated page, read 1 October 2026), the Argentine certificate for entry to Peru is valid for 10 calendar days from the health examination to the document and identity checks at the Peruvian point of entry. This applies to certificates issued in Argentina; other exporting countries' agreed certificates may set a different period. Applies to dogs and cats certified in Argentina.

Other vaccines and tests

Parasite treatment

  • Internal and external deworming within the 30 days before travel, recorded on the origin health certificate (SENASA press note, 16 April 2025; the same 30 days appears in SENASA's note of 29 November 2024).
Official sources differSENASA's older article of 12 January 2020 (https://www.senasa.gob.pe/senasacontigo/conoce-los-requisitos-para-la-salida-e-ingreso-de-mascotas-al-pais/) says deworming within 15 days before travel. The newer SENASA notes (2024, 2025) say 30 days and are preferred; treating within 15 days satisfies both.

Quarantine

  • No quarantine is set for compliant pets: the 2025 entry procedure is document check, fee and clinical inspection on arrival. Pets arriving without the required certificates are held; the SENASA inspector may order return to origin or 15 days of home quarantine while the owner regularises the papers (SENASA article, 18 August 2017). Applies to dogs and cats arriving without the required certificates.

Arrival points and notice

Minimum age

  • SENASA Peru's own pages set no minimum entry age (they are silent; they only make rabies vaccination compulsory from 3 months of age), so this rests on exporting-government guidance. Per SENASA Argentina's destination requirements for Peru (undated page, read 1 October 2026), dogs and cats under 3 months may be sent to Peru, and for them the animal's age must be stated on the health certificate. Applies to dogs and cats under 3 months certified in Argentina.

How many pets

Banned and restricted breeds

  • No import ban on any breed appears on the SENASA pages read (they state no breed condition; this is silence, not an explicit statement). Ownership of potentially dangerous breeds is restricted under Ley 27596: Resolución Ministerial 1776-2002-SA/DM lists Pit Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Japonesa (Tosa Inu), Bullmastiff, Dobermann and Rottweiler (Ministry of Health note, 14 November 2018). Applies to dogs of the listed breeds and their crosses.
  • Owners of these breeds must prove psychological fitness through a registered psychologist, be over 18 and have no sanction under the law in the previous three years; the dogs must be registered with the municipality and walked muzzled and on a lead (Ministry of Health note, 14 November 2018). Applies to owners of potentially dangerous breeds in Peru.

How your pet may travel

  • Pets may arrive with the passenger or as air cargo. A pet shipped as cargo is treated as unaccompanied baggage, free of import taxes, if it is the only pet and arrives between 1 month before and 6 months after the passenger (SUNAT customs guidance). Applies to dogs and cats arriving as air cargo.

Official fees

  • Entry inspection fee S/ 98.60 (SENASA press note, 16 April 2025).
Official sources differSENASA's article of 12 January 2020 (https://www.senasa.gob.pe/senasacontigo/conoce-los-requisitos-para-la-salida-e-ingreso-de-mascotas-al-pais/) gave S/ 99.00. The Peruvian Consulate in Bilbao page (https://www.consulado.pe/es/Bilbao/tramite/Paginas/Otros/Ingreso-Peru-Mascotas.aspx, undated) expresses the charges as 1.973% of the UIT for inspection and 0.729% of the UIT for the entry document, which would make the amount rise with the UIT. The newer SENASA figure is recorded; confirm the current amount with SENASA before travel.

Other conditions

  • After the documents are checked, SENASA carries out a clinical inspection of the pet on arrival for signs of infectious or parasitic disease (SENASA press note, 16 April 2025).
  • Customs: a second or further pet, a pet arriving outside the baggage window, or a pet shipped as cargo not linked to a passenger pays import duties and is cleared on a Declaración Simplificada de Importación with SENASA's entry document (SUNAT customs guidance). Applies to dogs and cats arriving outside the baggage allowance.
Material informativo: Ingreso de mascotas, checked 1 October 2026
  • Per UK APHA notes for guidance 3919NFG (revised 15 October 2025): Peru requires animals to have lived in the UK for six months before export, or since birth. SENASA's own pages are silent on any residence period, so this rests on UK guidance only. Applies to dogs and cats exported from Great Britain.
