    Official sources differThe gov.om service page 'Get a Veterinary Permit to Import Animals Shipment' (updated 2 July 2026, https://gov.om/en/w/get-a-veterinary-permit-to-import-animals-shipment) gives a processing time of 24 hours for animal shipment permits generally. The Oman Customs page specific to dogs and cats is preferred; allow up to 24 hours to be safe.
  • Per UK APHA guidance notes 3933NFG (revised 27 November 2023): import of dogs and cats into Oman needs an import permit, obtained before export. The guidance names an older issuing department; apply through the Oman Customs Bayan system as above. Applies to dogs and cats from the UK.

Microchip

  • The pet's microchip number must be recorded on the immunisation record, with a photo of the pet. No ISO standard or timing relative to rabies vaccination is stated on any official page, so a standard ISO 11784/11785 chip implanted before vaccination is a safe practice, not a stated rule.

Rabies vaccination

  • Rabies vaccination after 12 weeks of age, and no more than 12 months since vaccination at import.

Rabies titre test

  • Blood sample for rabies antibody titre (RNATT or FAVN) drawn 21 to 30 days after the last rabies vaccination; a certificate from an accredited laboratory is required at the port.

Health certificate

  • A government veterinary health certificate from the exporting country is required, with the import permit and the vaccination record or passport.

  • Per UK APHA certificate 3933 (guidance revised 27 November 2023): examination by the Official Veterinarian not more than 48 hours before export; the certificate states it is valid for 10 days. Oman's own pages set no validity period. Applies to dogs and cats from the UK.

Other vaccines and tests

  • The permit application must include the pet's immunisation record from birth (with the pet's photo and microchip on it). The full list of import conditions names no vaccine other than rabies and no test other than the rabies antibody test, so no other specific vaccine is required by Oman.

Parasite treatment

  • Not required: the Oman Customs page's full list of import conditions for the prior veterinary permit (rabies vaccination, minimum age, rabies antibody test, banned breeds) contains no parasite treatment. UK certificate 3933 also certifies none.

Quarantine

  • Not required for pets that meet the conditions: the Oman Customs page's full list of import conditions contains no quarantine, and shipments are released round the clock within two hours of presentation at the port.

Official fees

  • The veterinary permit to import dogs and cats costs OMR 20: the Oman Customs page lists the application fee as 20 rials (English page: 'Application fees - OMR 20'), and the gov.om service page of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources (updated 2 July 2026) also lists 20 Omani rials against the veterinary permit to import dogs and cats. The Arabic page shows the fee under the heading 'رسوم الطلب' (application fees).
