Two rabies vaccinations are required, given at least 1 month apart but no more than 12 months apart. Your pet must also be microchipped before the first vaccination.

Yes. All imported cats and dogs must complete a minimum 10-day quarantine at the MPI facility at Auckland Airport. There are no exemptions.

Allow a minimum of 8 to 10 months. The 180-day wait after the titre test is the longest single requirement. Factor in time for two rabies vaccinations, blood tests, and permit processing.

New Zealand bans American Pit Bull Terriers, Dogo Argentinos, Brazilian Fila dogs, Japanese Tosa Inus, and Perro de Presa Canarios. If you own one of these breeds, importation is not permitted under any circumstances. Check the New Zealand Dog Control Act 1996 for the current list before making any plans.
