Importing Your Pet to Denmark

Relaxed to import

Denmark is an EU member state with pet import procedures managed by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA). Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is the main entry point.

For pets from EU/EFTA countries, an EU Pet Passport is sufficient. For other origins, an endorsed health certificate is required. No mandatory quarantine for compliant pets.

Denmark has additional rules for certain breeds under its dog legislation, which is separate from import rules but applies to dogs once they arrive in the country. Some breeds that can be imported may face restrictions on ownership within Denmark.

Danish breed legislation

Denmark bans 13 specific dog breeds under national law, regardless of how they entered the country. The banned breeds include Pit Bull Terriers, Tosas, American Bulldogs, Fila Brasileiros, Dogo Argentinos, and others. Owners of these breeds cannot legally keep them in Denmark even if import documentation was accepted.

This is a important distinction: import clearance does not override domestic dog legislation. If you own one of these breeds and are moving to Denmark, get specific legal advice before proceeding.

EU entry at Copenhagen

Pets arriving from outside the EU enter through DVFA’s inspection facility at Copenhagen Airport. Documentation checks follow EU import rules. All rabies vaccination, microchip, and health certificate requirements must be met before departure.
