Titre test, ICA certificate, and 5-month timeline
Colombia is classified as a non-listed third country under EU Regulation 576/2013. The FAVN titre test is mandatory, with a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml from an EU-approved laboratory, followed by a 3-month waiting period from the blood sampling date. Source: food.ec.europa.eu, 2026.

The ICA-registered official vet issues the certificate within 10 days of travel; ICA endorses it before departure. Total preparation from starting the process to departure is approximately five months.
Iberia direct and Spain PPP obligations
Iberia Cargo operates direct from Bogota El Dorado (BOG) to Madrid Barajas (MAD) and accepts live animal cargo. The BOG-MAD corridor is one of the busiest between South America and Spain. Avianca also connects on this route. Book 4-6 weeks ahead.
Spain’s PPP (Perro Potencialmente Peligroso) law covers Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, and similar breeds. The import itself is not restricted; PPP creates ongoing obligations once the dog is in Spain: muzzle in public, maximum 2m leash, civil liability insurance, and a PPP licence from the local municipality.
