Which Ireland rules depend on a pet coming from Chile?
The EU sorts non-EU countries into groups, and Chile falls in “Listed third countries and territories, Annex II to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/636”.
No rabies antibody titration test needed. Animal health certificate, microchip and rabies vaccination still required; entry through a travellers' point of entry with documentary and identity checks. Montenegro and Serbia were added by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1228. The EUR-Lex text of 2026/636 lists the USA as including American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. Official source
The rules that apply to every pet entering Ireland, whatever the origin, are listed with their official sources in our Ireland guide.
What does Chile require before your pet leaves?
- Export permit: Not required: SAG's step-by-step exit process for pet dogs and cats has four steps (check destination rules, plan ahead, gather the destination's supporting documents, request the SAG CZE). The only Chilean document is the CZE; there is no separate export permit. Any import permit is a destination requirement. Applies to pet dogs and cats leaving Chile.
Salida de mascotas de Chile (perros y gatos), checked 1 October 2026 - Export health certificate: Pets leaving Chile need a Certificado Zoosanitario de Exportación (CZE) issued by SAG; it is mandatory. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Chile.
Salida de mascotas de Chile (perros y gatos), checked 1 October 2026 - Export health certificate: The CZE must be requested within 10 days before travel, once all supporting documents for the destination are ready. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Chile.
Salida de mascotas de Chile (perros y gatos), checked 1 October 2026 - Export health certificate: The CZE attests that the animal meets the destination country's entry requirements. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Chile.
Ingreso o salida de mascotas y especies animales y vegetales protegidas, checked 1 October 2026 - Export health certificate: From 1 October 2026 SAG issues the new Certificados Zoosanitarios de Exportación (CZE) for non-commercial travel (the SAG exit page places this in its section on non-commercial travel to the EU) and the matching declarations must be used. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Chile on non-commercial journeys (EU section of the SAG page).
Salida de mascotas de Chile (perros y gatos), checked 6 October 2026 - Export health certificate: For non-commercial travel to the EU the person travelling with the animals must carry the declarations in an official language of the destination country and in English. If an authorised person travels instead, the owner's signed authorisation is attached and the owner must travel within five days before or after the animals. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Chile for the EU, non-commercial.
Salida de mascotas de Chile (perros y gatos), checked 6 October 2026 - Other conditions: Export CZE fee (SAG exit page): 0.41 UTM for one pet. A further pet costs 0.22 UTM each only where the destination rules allow it on the same CZE; otherwise each CZE is charged in full. Endorsing an EU pet passport costs 0.25 UTM for one pet and 0.12 UTM per additional pet (Res. 242/2025). Applies to dogs and cats leaving Chile.
Salida de mascotas de Chile (perros y gatos), checked 1 October 2026 - Other conditions: Under Res. 3.343/2026 resolvo 5 as replaced by Res. 5.444/2026, pets that left Chile temporarily may re-enter within 60 calendar days of the CZE's issue on the original or official copy of the SAG CZE, provided the rabies vaccination is still valid and the pet is permanently identified by ISO 11784/11785 microchip or tattoo. Pets that left before 27 July 2026 fall under a transitional rule (21 days, or up to 60 days for countries with such an agreement). Applies to dogs and cats returning to Chile.
