What this route typically costs
Critical points
No titre test required from Chile: Chile's EU-listed status removes the 3-month wait entirely.
The SAG-endorsed AHC must be issued within 10 days of travel. Schedule the final vet appointment accordingly.
France's Category 1 breed ban applies at the border. Verify your breed's status under French law.
No direct SCL-CDG cargo flight; all routes connect via a hub (usually MAD).
Approved carriers for this route
Not all airlines accept live animals. We book only with carriers that handle live animal cargo correctly.
How does Chile's listed status simplify the France move?
The EU grants certain third countries listed status when their animal health surveillance and regulatory systems are judged equivalent to EU standards. Chile is one of these listed countries. Argentina and Mexico also have listed status in South America; Colombia and Peru do not.
For a Chilean pet travelling to France, the practical difference is substantial. The FAVN titre test requirement is waived entirely, as is the 3-month wait from blood sampling. Instead of a five-month preparation window, you have a four to six week window from start to flight day.
The requirements that remain are: ISO microchip implanted before the rabies vaccination, current rabies vaccination with the 21-day post-primary wait completed, and an EU-format Animal Health Certificate issued by a SAG-authorised official vet in Chile within 10 days of travel. French customs at CDG verify all of these on arrival.
There is no cost for a titre test lab fee, no waiting around for results, and no counting months on a calendar. This is the straightforward version of the South America to France route.
The SAG health certificate process for France: how it works
SAG, the Servicio Agricola y Ganadero, is Chile’s official agricultural and food safety authority. For pet exports to EU countries including France, a SAG-authorised official vet issues the health certificate and SAG endorses it.
Not all vets in Chile are SAG-authorised official vets. Your regular clinic may be able to refer you to one, or you can find the list through SAG directly. The certificate examination involves a clinical assessment of your pet’s health status and a review of the vaccination and microchip records.
The certificate must be issued within 10 days of travel. This means your vet appointment and SAG endorsement need to fit within the 10-day window before your Santiago departure. Allow a couple of days for the SAG endorsement processing, especially if the vet and the SAG office are not the same location.
Getting your pet from Santiago to Paris by cargo
There is no direct cargo flight from Santiago to Paris. All routes to France involve a European hub connection. The two main options are Madrid via Iberia or LATAM (then onward to CDG), or Amsterdam via KLM with a CDG connection.
Air France operates passenger services between Santiago and Paris via connecting hubs, and Air France Cargo accepts live animals. Check with Air France Cargo or an approved live animal cargo agent for the specific routing, as Air France does not always operate SCL as a direct spoke.
Madrid via Iberia or LATAM is often the most practical routing, with Iberia operating SCL-MAD direct. Iberia Cargo handles the live animal on the first leg; Air France Cargo or another carrier handles the Madrid-to-CDG portion. Confirm both legs accept live animals when booking.
