Microchip

An ISO 11784/11785-compliant 15-digit microchip is required, and it has to go in before the rabies vaccination, not after.

Rabies vaccination

Required for any cat or dog over three months old, given between 30 days and 12 months before arrival.

Rabies titre test

Not part of Uzbekistan's published entry requirements for pets arriving from any country, Canada included. That's worth double-checking directly before travel, since this framework has shifted more than once since 2023 and a blog citing last year's rule is not the same as a current answer from the Committee itself.

Quarantine

Not imposed on a compliant pet. Owners bringing in up to two personal animals are exempt from mandatory quarantine and from the import permit requirement below, provided the microchip, vaccination and certificate are all in order. An animal that shows up without them can be quarantined, sent back, or worse, at the owner's cost.

Import permit

Not required for up to two personal pets meeting the standard conditions. Above that number, or with incomplete paperwork, the Committee requires a formal import permit.

Health certificate

Veterinary certificate issued within 10 days of travel, translated into Russian or Uzbek and notarized before arrival.

Export permit

No general export permit exists for a personal dog or cat leaving Canada. The requirement is a certificate, not a permit.

Veterinary inspection

A licensed Canadian vet examines the animal and completes the export health certificate, confirming the microchip, the rabies vaccination date and general health.

Government endorsement

That certificate then needs endorsement, in person, from an official CFIA veterinarian before the pet leaves the country. CFIA has no process for endorsing a certificate after departure, so the appointment has to happen while the animal is still in Canada. The fee runs roughly CAD 20 to 40 per certificate.

Health certificate

Uzbekistan requires the entry paperwork in Russian or Uzbek, notarized. Most owners get the CFIA-endorsed certificate translated and notarized in Canada before travel rather than trying to arrange this on arrival at Tashkent.

Microchip before you vaccinate. The microchip must be in place before the rabies shot for the vaccination to count, and getting this order wrong is the most common and costly mistake.

Use an official, government-authorised vet for the health certificate, not just your usual clinic. Many destinations only accept certificates signed by an approved vet.
