Requirements

What your pet needs to enter Jamaica

Every item below must be in place before your pet can travel. We manage and verify each one.

Microchip
ISO 11784 or Annex A to ISO 11785 required. Must be implanted before vaccinations, and confirmed on a Preliminary Application Form submitted to VSD before any further steps begin.
Rabies vaccination
Required, after microchipping. For a first vaccination in a pet over 12 months old, entry does not qualify until 3 months after the dose.
Rabies titre test
Required. A FAVN titre test must be carried out 30 days after the vaccination that qualifies the pet, minimum result 0.5 IU/ml, at a VSD-approved laboratory.
Quarantine
Up to 14 days at the National Quarantine Facility, Plumb Point, Kingston. VSD inspectors may release compliant, healthy pets earlier, at their discretion.
Import permit
Required. Apply to VSD only after the Preliminary Application Form is approved, at least 8-12 weeks before travel. Email vsdpermits@moa.gov.jm.
Health certificate
Required. Issued within 10 days of travel and endorsed by a CFIA-accredited vet.
Export permit (Canada)
No formal export permit for personal pets leaving Canada.
Costs

What this route typically costs

CFIA-accredited vet exam and health certificate: CAD 150-350.
FAVN titre test at a VSD-approved laboratory: CAD 200-330.
VSD import permit: USD 100-200.
Plumb Point quarantine facility fees, up to 14 days: USD 400-900.
Cargo fee, Toronto to Kingston: CAD 450-850 depending on crate size.

Critical points to read before you book

Do not vaccinate or titre test before VSD approves the Preliminary Application Form. Doing so risks having the whole application rejected.

The flight itself is short and direct, but the regulatory timeline runs to roughly five months. Start the Preliminary Application well before you'd like to book the flight.

Plumb Point quarantine can run the full 14 days even for a well-documented pet.

Meeting Jamaica's entry requirements

The requirements for Jamaica are thorough rather than difficult. Work through them methodically and confirm anything you are unsure about with the official source.

Advice worth following

Confirm live animal acceptance on every flight segment before booking. Not all aircraft or connections take pets, and cargo terms can differ leg to leg.

Keep every original document together and take copies. Border officials want originals, and a missing signature or date can hold up clearance.

Work backwards from your travel date and add a buffer. Fixed waiting periods mean a single slipped appointment can push the whole move back by weeks.

Check the airline’s crate size and labelling rules early. An undersized or wrongly labelled crate is a frequent reason pets are refused at check-in.

FAQ

Common questions about Canada to Jamaica pet transport

Realistically 18-22 weeks. The Preliminary Application, titre test wait, VSD import permit processing, and up to 14 days of quarantine add up well beyond the length of the flight.
Pets are subject to up to 14 days at Plumb Point. VSD inspectors can release a healthy, fully documented pet sooner, but this isn’t guaranteed.
Yes. Air Canada operates a non-stop Toronto to Kingston service, with WestJet adding a seasonal direct option during peak winter months.
Any vaccination or titre test completed before VSD approves this form may not count towards entry, risking rejection of the entire application.
