Every item below must be completed and verified before your pet can travel. Expand each category for the detail.

Microchip
No federal microchip law for a personal pet, but every downstream document, the rabies certificate especially, is easier to match up if a 15-digit ISO 11784/11785 chip is fitted before vaccination.
Rabies vaccination
Required. A valid rabies vaccination certificate, signed by a licensed vet and written in English or French, is the document CFIA actually checks. The dog must have been at least 3 months old at vaccination.
Rabies titre test
Not required under CFIA's currently published personal-pet rules, even though Cameroon sits on CFIA's high-risk list for dog rabies. That classification, confirmed on the list dated 13 March 2025, triggered a ban on commercial dog imports in September 2022, not an added blood test for a dog travelling with its own owner. Confirm this hasn't changed before booking, since CFIA has said it may tighten personal-pet rules for high-risk countries.
Quarantine
No routine quarantine for a personal pet arriving with a valid rabies certificate and, generally, a healthy appearance on arrival.
Import permit
Not required for a personal pet import of one or two animals. CFIA reserves its import permit and its outright entry ban for commercial dog shipments from high-risk countries, a category that doesn't cover a family pet flying with its owner.
Health certificate
No CFIA-mandated health certificate template beyond the rabies vaccination paperwork itself for personal pets, though most airlines still want a general veterinary certificate dated close to travel.
Export permit
Export authorisation from MINEPIA (Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries). Apply at least 6 weeks before travel; a physical inspection of the animal is possible.
Veterinary inspection
Clinical check by a MINEPIA-registered vet close to departure, confirming the animal is healthy, current on rabies vaccination and matches its microchip record.
Government endorsement
MINEPIA endorsement on the export health certificate is what an airline actually checks at Douala or Yaounde. Without it, a vet-signed certificate alone doesn't clear the animal for export.

Cameroon's place on CFIA's high-risk list currently only affects commercial dog shipments, banned outright since 28 September 2022. A personal pet flying with its owner isn't caught by that ban, but CFIA has publicly flagged an intent to add requirements for personal pets from high-risk countries. There's no equivalent, in Canada, of the CDC's six-airport facility rule that governs high-risk-country dogs entering the US. Don't plan a Cameroon-to-Canada route around that US-specific system; it has no bearing here.
