Costs
What this route typically costs
FAVN titre test (blood draw plus international laboratory): AZN 150-450 (approximately EUR 80-250)
SAQV health certificate and endorsement: AZN 50-150 (approximately EUR 25-80)
Live cargo Baku to Copenhagen via hub: EUR 600-1,700 depending on route and crate
IATA travel crate: EUR 80-300
Pet transport agent: EUR 400-1,000
Total typical range: EUR 900-3,400 across a 5-7 month preparation period
Critical points to read before you book
The 90-day wait is counted from the blood draw date, not the date the result arrives from the laboratory. If the result takes 3 weeks to come back, you still count from when the blood was drawn.
Denmark's Fødevarestyrelsen is competent and thorough at Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH). The sequence of microchip, vaccination, titre test, and health certificate dates must be logically consistent and clearly documented.
Azerbaijan is EU unlisted. The Azerbaijani state veterinary system is recognised for export certificates, but EU entry still requires the full unlisted process regardless of how good the Azerbaijani veterinary documentation is.
April 2026 EU rule update: new non-commercial health certificate formats will apply from October 2026. For travel before that date, the 2021 format remains valid. Confirm with your vet and SAQV which version to use.

Coordinating the FAVN titre test from Baku
The FAVN titre test is the technical centrepiece of the EU unlisted country process. In Azerbaijan, no domestic laboratory holds EU approval for this test, so the blood must be drawn in Baku and shipped internationally to an approved laboratory.
Most EU-approved FAVN labs are in Western Europe. Your Azerbaijani vet draws the blood sample, packages it appropriately (typically with a preservative such as sodium azide, chilled), and arranges international courier shipping to the approved lab. Turnaround from blood draw to result is typically 2-4 weeks.
Not all vets in Baku are experienced with international FAVN samples. Ask your vet directly whether they have done this before and which laboratory they use. If they have not, consider using a specialist pet transport agent in Baku who handles regular Caucasus-to-Europe moves and has an established lab relationship.
Denmark as an entry point for wider Scandinavian travel
Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH) is Scandinavia’s busiest airport and one of the continent’s most practical cargo hubs. For pets coming from Baku, it is a logical entry point, especially if your final destination is anywhere in Denmark or nearby Scandinavia.
Once your pet is cleared at CPH and enters Denmark as an EU member state, movement within the EU/Schengen zone does not require re-inspection if your documents are current. This makes Copenhagen a useful gateway even if your destination is a nearby Scandinavian country, though note that each country may have its own registration or notification requirements after your pet arrives.
The Fødevarestyrelsen border veterinarian at CPH processes live animal arrivals from third countries efficiently. Have all documents ready: health certificate, titre test result (with blood draw date clearly stated), vaccination certificate, and microchip documentation.
FAQ
Common questions about Azerbaijan to Denmark pet transport
TRACES pre-notification is required for commercial pet movements into the EU. For non-commercial personal pet moves (owner with one or two pets relocating), the requirement depends on the specific circumstances. Check with Fødevarestyrelsen directly or with your transport agent, as enforcement of pre-notification requirements for private pet moves from unlisted countries has tightened since 2024.
Carry copies of everything in your cabin bag: the health certificate, titre test result, vaccination record, and microchip documentation. If your cargo booking requires you to present documents separately from the live animal, having originals with you speeds up processing at CPH. Some agents also recommend carrying a short document summary showing the key dates (chip date, vaccination date, blood draw date, travel date) to make the border vet’s timeline check easier.
The EU accepts rabies vaccines that are inactivated (killed virus) and produced in accordance with European Pharmacopoeia standards or equivalent. Several Russian-produced inactivated rabies vaccines are used in the Caucasus region and are considered acceptable if the manufacturer’s specifications confirm they are inactivated. Your vet should confirm the vaccine type and include the vaccine details on the health certificate. If there is any doubt, revaccination with an EU-licensed product before the titre test removes the ambiguity.
