What this route typically costs
Critical points
Before January 2026, there was no clean single-carrier path between Australia and Dakar. Turkish Airlines' new Sydney-Istanbul service, feeding its established Istanbul-Dakar link, is the first real fix. Confirm current live animal capacity directly, since a new route can run tighter than an established one.
Qatar Airways reaches Doha from Australia daily, but Doha itself has no direct service to Dakar. Every routing found adds a further stop through Casablanca, Tunis or Brussels, a longer chain than the Turkish Airlines option.
Senegal's Import Authorisation is only valid for 3 months from issue. Apply too early and it can expire before you travel; apply too late and there's no time to fix a rejected application.
Dakar's commercial airport changed in December 2017. Confirm any booking and ground arrangements reference Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS), not the older Léopold Sédar Senghor Airport.
Approved carriers for this route
Not all airlines accept live animals. We book only with carriers that handle live animal cargo correctly.
How Senegal handles incoming pets
What experienced owners do
Use an official, government-authorised vet for the health certificate, not just your usual clinic. Many destinations only accept certificates signed by an approved vet.
If this is your first international move, consider an IPATA-registered pet transport agent. They handle the documents, airline booking and crate sizing, and can troubleshoot problems.
Get your pet used to the travel crate weeks in advance. A calm, crate-familiar animal travels far better than one meeting the crate for the first time at the airport.
Confirm live animal acceptance on every flight segment before booking. Not all aircraft or connections take pets, and cargo terms can differ leg to leg.
