Pet Transport from Australia to Pakistan
Most guidance on this corridor describes a six-month project. It is not one. Pakistan asks for no rabies antibody test, from Australia or from anywhere else. It imposes no …

What this route typically costs
Critical points
Mandatory quarantine required on arrival. Plan for separation from your pet.
Import permit must be obtained before travel. Apply well in advance.
Always verify current regulations with the destination country's official veterinary authority before travel.
The permit that has to exist before you fly
Every dog and cat entering Pakistan needs an import permit issued in advance by the Animal Quarantine Department, which sits under the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. It is filed through the Pakistan Single Window portal.
This is the item on the critical path. Not the vaccination, which is straightforward, and not a blood test, which does not exist here. The permit is what an animal cannot travel without, and it is the thing to start rather than the thing to finish.
Apply once your travel dates are firm enough to be useful but early enough to absorb a delay. An airline will not accept the animal without it, and there is no arrival-side remedy: this is not a document you can sort out at Karachi.
A vaccination window with two edges
Pakistan wants the rabies vaccination given between 30 days and 12 months before entry.
Both ends bite. Vaccinate too late and the animal has not cleared the 30 days. Vaccinate too early, or rely on a shot given 14 months ago, and it has fallen out the other side of the window and has to be redone, which puts you back behind another 30 days.
The sequence still matters as it does everywhere: microchip first, then vaccinate. A rabies vaccination given before the chip does not count, and correcting it costs you the full 30 days again.
For an Australian pet with routine annual boosters this is usually easy. It catches people whose animal is on a three-year vaccine and whose last dose was two years ago.
What happens at the airport
The Animal Quarantine Department inspects on arrival. A compliant animal continues with you.
There is no routine holding period, no designated facility stay, and no fee for a waiting period that does not happen. Where an animal is detained, because paperwork is missing or it presents as unwell, the Department sets the terms case by case rather than applying a fixed number of days, and any costs fall to the owner.
So the risk on this route is binary rather than gradual. Arrive with the permit and a vaccination inside its window and the process is short. Arrive without them and you are in a discretionary process with no published timetable, which is a much worse position than a known quarantine period would be.
