What this route typically costs
Critical points
Korean Air's daily Sydney-Seoul service is not usable for this route. Its own pet-eligible destination list excludes Australia entirely, unlike the UK and US equivalents of this corridor, which lean on Korean Air heavily.
Air China's dog suspension, in force since 1 February 2025, is scoped to flights into the United States. It shouldn't affect a Sydney-Beijing-Ulaanbaatar routing on its own wording, but confirm this directly with Air China Cargo rather than assuming a narrow policy reading holds in practice.
There is no direct flight between Australia and Mongolia. Beijing on Air China and Istanbul on Turkish Airlines are the two realistic doors, both with limited weekly capacity.
Mongolia's own English-language guidance for this route is thin. Confirm current requirements directly with GAVS or a receiving vet close to your travel date.
Approved carriers for this route
Not all airlines accept live animals. We book only with carriers that handle live animal cargo correctly.

Getting the details right
Get your pet used to the travel crate weeks in advance. A calm, crate-familiar animal travels far better than one meeting the crate for the first time at the airport.
Confirm live animal acceptance on every flight segment before booking. Not all aircraft or connections take pets, and cargo terms can differ leg to leg.
Keep every original document together and take copies. Border officials want originals, and a missing signature or date can hold up clearance.
Work backwards from your travel date and add a buffer. Fixed waiting periods mean a single slipped appointment can push the whole move back by weeks.
