Pet Transport from Armenia to Spain
Armenia is not on the EU's approved third-country list, so the full unlisted-country import process applies for Spain entry. Plan for 5 to 6 months from the start of preparations. The schedule is driven by two fixed waiting periods: 30 days between vaccination …

What your pet needs to enter Spain
Every item must be verified before your pet can board. We track each one against current standards.
What this route typically costs
Critical points
The 3-month wait is counted from the blood draw date, not the result date. Miscalculating this causes the move to fail at the Spanish border.
SSFS endorsement processing times can vary. Confirm current turnaround time before booking flights.
PPP-listed breeds require civil liability insurance of at least EUR 120,000 before arriving in Spain. This cannot be arranged after landing.
Approved carriers for this route
Not all airlines accept live animals. We book only with carriers that handle live animal cargo correctly.
What paperwork does a pet from Armenia need to enter Spain?
The sequence matters as much as the documents. The microchip must be implanted before the rabies vaccination, and the vaccination must come before the titre test blood draw. Your pet must be at least 12 weeks old before the vaccination.
Once vaccinated, you wait 30 days before drawing blood for the titre test. The sample goes to an EU-approved laboratory. The result must come back at 0.5 IU/ml or above. From the blood draw date, the 3-month waiting period begins. If the result falls below the threshold, the process restarts with a booster vaccination.
After the wait, your vet produces an official health certificate documenting the microchip number, vaccination dates, titre test laboratory, result, and blood draw date. The SSFS endorses this certificate before departure. Spanish border inspectors at Madrid Barajas or Barcelona El Prat check all of this on arrival.
How does the flight from Yerevan to Spain work?
Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) is not a major hub, so routes to Spain require a connection. Turkish Airlines via Istanbul is the standard choice and has an established process for pets transiting at IST. The journey to Madrid or Barcelona typically takes 6 to 8 hours depending on the connection.
Routing via Dubai with Flydubai and Emirates to Madrid is another option, but requires careful checking. The policies of two separate carriers apply, and not all carriers accept pets on every leg. Contact the cargo desk of each airline individually rather than relying on the booking website.
Book cargo space as early as possible, particularly for summer travel when holds on Barcelona routes fill quickly.
How much does it cost to move a pet from Armenia to Spain?
Total costs typically fall between EUR 1,100 and EUR 3,000. The biggest variable is your pet’s size, which directly drives airline cargo fees. A small cat costs very differently compared to a large dog.
The titre test at an EU-approved lab runs approximately EUR 200 to EUR 400 including blood draw and courier charges. Airline cargo from EVN to MAD or BCN costs roughly EUR 600 to EUR 1,800. SSFS endorsement and vet fees add EUR 80 to EUR 250. If your dog falls under Spain’s PPP rules, civil liability insurance of at least EUR 120,000 must be in place before arrival.
An IPATA-registered pet transport agent can handle the SSFS certificate, airline booking, and border inspection paperwork for EUR 300 to EUR 700, which is worth considering if this is your first international pet move.
