Overview
The Netherlands applies the standard EU unlisted country process to pets from Armenia: FAVN titre test, a 90-day wait, and an SSFS-endorsed EU health certificate. The preparation minimum is five to six months. Entry is via Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), which has dedicated live animal facilities and is familiar with this type of import. KLM Cargo and Turkish Airlines are the main options from Yerevan.

Critical points

Read before you book

⚠ The 90-day wait runs from the blood draw date, not from the date the results arrive. Even if results come back in two weeks, the clock started when the blood was drawn.
⚠ Microchip before vaccination. Reversing this sequence means the vaccination does not count for EU purposes and you start again.
⚠ EU-approved laboratories for the FAVN test are mostly in Europe or North America. Confirm your vet knows the correct blood sampling and international shipping process.
⚠ Armenia is EU unlisted. The CEPA agreement with the EU does not change pet import classifications.

The 90-day wait and why it cannot be shortened

Under Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/131 (in force from 22 April 2026, replacing EU Regulation 576/2013), pets from unlisted countries must pass a rabies antibody titre test and wait 90 days from the blood draw date before entering the EU. This wait exists to ensure that the immune response shown in the blood test has had time to become established protection.

There is no expedited route. No Dutch authority, no EU official, and no pet transport agent can shorten the 90-day period. If your blood draw date is 1 January and the test passes, your earliest entry date is 1 April. Some owners draw blood as soon as possible when they know a move is coming, even if the travel date is not yet fixed, precisely to get the 90-day clock running.

Schiphol as the Dutch entry point and the NVWA inspection

Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) is the Netherlands’ international cargo hub and the practical entry point for pets arriving from outside the EU. The NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) handles border inspection at Schiphol. For compliant arrivals, the inspection is a straightforward administrative check: the NVWA officer verifies the health certificate, titre test result, and microchip, and confirms the animal’s identity. Most compliant arrivals clear without delay.

From Yerevan, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul (IST) is the most common cargo routing to AMS. KLM connections from EVN via other European hubs are an alternative. Confirm with the carrier that live animal cargo is accepted on the specific booking before paying for any documentation.

FAQ

Common questions

No. The NVWA applies the standard EU unlisted country requirements. The EU-format health certificate endorsed by the SSFS, the FAVN titre test result (0.5 IU/mL or above), and proof that the 90-day wait has passed are the required documents. Source: NVWA nvwa.nl, EU Regulation 2026/131.
Yes. If your pet has completed the EU unlisted country process and entered the EU through one member state, onward travel to the Netherlands does not require a repeat of the process. Internal EU movement uses the EU pet passport rules.
No. The titre test must be processed at an EU-approved laboratory, but that laboratory does not have to be in the Netherlands specifically. Most EU-approved labs are in France, Germany, Belgium, the UK, or the USA. Your Armenian vet ships the blood sample internationally. The EU maintains the approved laboratory list at food.ec.europa.eu.
