Step by step

The Armenia to Denmark pet import process

Each step must be completed in a precise sequence. Start early. We manage every stage and deadline.

1
Microchip (ISO 11784/11785)
Responsible: Armenian vet
First step. Implant before any vaccination. If already chipped, have the chip scanned and confirm the number matches your paperwork.
2
Primary rabies vaccination
Responsible: Armenian vet
After microchipping. Wait at least 30 days after this vaccination before the titre test blood draw.
3
FAVN titre test blood draw
Responsible: Armenian vet + approved laboratory
At least 30 days post-vaccination. Ship blood to an EU-approved laboratory. The blood draw date starts the 90-day clock.
4
90-day wait from blood draw date
Responsible: N/A
Mandatory legal minimum under EU Regulation 2020/692. The clock starts from the blood draw date, not the date results are returned. Allow 2-4 weeks extra for result processing.
5
Book live cargo from Yerevan to Copenhagen
Responsible: Owner or transport agent
During the 90-day wait. Research routings via IST, FRA or AMS. Secure cargo bookings early.
6
SSFS-endorsed EU health certificate
Responsible: SSFS-authorised vet + SSFS
Within 10 days of travel to Denmark. Book the vet appointment close to departure.
7
Travel to Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH)
Responsible: Airline + owner
Travel day. Journey time from Yerevan including connections is typically 8-14 hours.
Requirements

What your pet needs to enter Denmark

Every item below must be in place before your pet can travel. We manage and verify each one.

Microchip
Required. ISO 11784/11785 standard. Must be implanted before the first rabies vaccination.
Rabies vaccination
Required. Current vaccination. 21-day minimum wait after primary vaccination before the pet may enter Denmark. Boosters given within the valid period of the prior vaccine are immediately effective.
Rabies titre test
Required. Denmark is an EU member state. Under EU Regulation 2020/692, pets from unlisted countries including Armenia must have a rabies antibody titre test at an EU-approved laboratory. Blood draw must be at least 30 days after primary vaccination. Minimum result 0.5 IU/ml. A 90-day wait from the blood draw date of the successful test must pass before entry. Quarantine
No routine quarantine for compliant arrivals in Denmark. Non-compliant pets may face detention or return.
Import permit
Not required for companion pets.
Health certificate

Costs

What this route typically costs

FAVN titre test (blood draw plus international laboratory processing): AMD 30,000-80,000 (approximately EUR 70-200)
SSFS health certificate and endorsement: AMD 10,000-25,000 (approximately EUR 25-60)
Live cargo from Yerevan to Copenhagen via hub: EUR 600-1,800 depending on crate size and routing
IATA-approved travel crate: EUR 80-300
Pet transport agent (recommended): EUR 400-1,000
Total typical range: EUR 900-3,400 across a 5-7 month preparation period

Critical points to read before you book

The 90-day wait is calculated from the blood draw date, not from the date you receive your titre test results. If your results take 3 weeks to arrive, you still count from when the blood was drawn.

Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH) is a busy European hub with a well-organised border inspection process. Ensure all documents are present and correctly sequenced before travel, as border vets at CPH are thorough.

Armenia is EU unlisted despite geographic proximity to the EU and existing trade arrangements with it. These trade ties have no impact on the veterinary classification that governs pet import. The full unlisted process applies.

April 2026 EU changes: From 22 April 2026, EU pet passports are only valid for owners resident in the EU. Armenian residents do not have EU pet passports, so this change does not create a shortcut. The SSFS-endorsed health certificate remains the correct document.

Airlines

Carriers approved for this route

Not all airlines accept live animals on this route. We know which carriers to use and how to book.

Turkish Airlines
Main viable routing from Yerevan (EVN) is via Istanbul (IST) to Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH). Turkish Airlines Cargo handles live animals at IST and operates well-established services to CPH. Confirm live animal booking on both the EVN-IST and IST-CPH segments.
Cargo Only
Air France / KLM
Routing from EVN via Paris CDG or Amsterdam AMS, then to CPH. KLM Cargo at Schiphol handles live animals and CPH connections are frequent. A practical alternative to the Turkish Airlines routing.
Cargo Only
Lufthansa
Via Frankfurt (FRA) Animal Lounge, then FRA to CPH. Lufthansa Cargo has strong infrastructure at FRA. Connection times on FRA-CPH need to allow adequate layover for live cargo.
Cargo Only
SAS (Scandinavian Airlines)
SAS does not fly from Yerevan but handles live cargo arriving into Copenhagen from European hubs. Worth confirming whether a SAS-operated final leg from a hub works within your routing.
Cargo Only

What unlisted country status means in practical terms

The EU divides countries into two categories for pet import: listed and unlisted. Listed countries, which include the UK, USA, Canada, and some others, have pet health systems the EU considers equivalent. Their pets can enter the EU with just a health certificate and current vaccination.

Armenia is not on the listed country register. That means any pet originating in Armenia must go through the unlisted process before it can enter Denmark or any other EU member state. The process is: microchip before vaccination, then vaccination, then a titre test blood draw at least 30 days after vaccination, then a 90-day wait from the blood draw date, and finally a health certificate issued within 10 days of departure.

The 90-day wait is set in EU Regulation 2020/692 and cannot be reduced by appeal or by working faster through the earlier steps. If the blood is drawn on 1 March and the titre passes, the earliest entry date into Denmark is 30 May. There is no exception.

Practical routing from Yerevan to Copenhagen

No direct cargo service for live animals runs from Yerevan International Airport (EVN) to Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH). The two most practical routings are via Istanbul Ataturk (IST) with Turkish Airlines Cargo, or via Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) with KLM Cargo.

The Istanbul routing is the most common for Caucasus-to-Scandinavia pet moves. Turkish Airlines has established cargo handling at IST and regular services to CPH. The total journey is typically 8-12 hours depending on connection timing.

The Amsterdam routing adds flexibility: KLM Cargo has thorough live animal procedures at Schiphol, and connections to CPH are frequent. If the Istanbul route is fully booked or unavailable during your window, this is a reliable alternative. Confirm on-carriage live animal acceptance for every segment and get written confirmation before committing to a routing.

FAQ

Common questions about Armenia to Denmark pet transport

Armenian veterinary laboratories are not EU-approved for FAVN testing. Your Armenian vet draws the blood sample and ships it internationally to an EU-approved laboratory. Most EU-approved labs are in the Netherlands, the UK, France, or Germany. Sample shipping and processing typically takes 2-4 weeks. The wait for results does not affect the 90-day countdown, which starts from the blood draw date regardless of when results arrive.
No. Cats moving from unlisted countries including Armenia into any EU member state including Denmark are subject to the same FAVN titre test and 90-day wait as dogs. The only animals exempt from this requirement are those moving between EU listed countries, which Armenia is not.
The border vet at CPH checks: the microchip number (scanned and cross-checked with documents), the health certificate issued within the past 10 days, evidence of current rabies vaccination dated after the microchip, the original FAVN titre test result showing 0.5 IU/ml or above, and confirmation that at least 90 days have passed from the blood draw date. Bring originals of all documents and photocopies as backup.
