Which Chile rules depend on a pet coming from Argentina?

Chile sets different rules for 3 groups of countries, and the official wording does not settle on its own which group covers Argentina. Check the group table in our Chile guide before you plan.

None of the Chile rules we have verified names Argentina on its own.

The rules that apply to every pet entering Chile, whatever the origin, are listed with their official sources in our Chile guide.

What does Argentina require before your pet leaves?

  • Export health certificate: Pets leaving Argentina need an International Veterinary Certificate (CVI) issued by SENASA based on the destination country's requirements. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Argentina.
Procedimiento para viajar al exterior con perros y gatos, checked 1 October 2026
  • Export health certificate: A registered (matriculado) private vet first certifies compliance with the destination's requirements, using products approved by SENASA in Argentina; SENASA's certifying office then issues the CVI. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Argentina.
Procedimiento para viajar al exterior con perros y gatos, checked 1 October 2026
  • Other conditions: All SENASA certifying offices work by prior appointment; online self-service appointments can be booked up to one month before travel at offices offering it, and a payment coupon is generated in the system. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Argentina.
Procedimiento para viajar al exterior con perros y gatos, checked 1 October 2026
  • Other conditions: Vaccination certificates from abroad may be accepted if valid, but treatments carried out abroad are not valid for SENASA export certification. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Argentina.
Procedimiento para viajar al exterior con perros y gatos, checked 1 October 2026
  • Other conditions: The CVI is issued in the name of the person travelling with the pet; for unaccompanied pets in the hold, in the name of the person receiving it at destination. Applies to dogs and cats leaving Argentina.
Procedimiento para viajar al exterior con perros y gatos, checked 1 October 2026
  • Other conditions: Pets that entered Argentina on a CVI need a new SENASA CVI to return to their country of origin, unless the entry CVI expressly states it is valid for the return, gives the maximum period allowed for it and is still in force. Pets that entered on a legalised official passport can return on it while the rabies vaccination certified in it remains valid. Applies to dogs and cats returning from Argentina.
Ingresos con perros y/o gatos, checked 1 October 2026
