Moving to Panama with Pets: AUPSA Requirements and What to Expect at Tocumen
AUPSA Health Certificate
The health certificate is the critical document for Panama entry. It must be:
- Issued by an accredited vet in your country
- Endorsed by your national veterinary authority (USDA APHIS for USA; APHA for UK)
- Issued within 14 days of travel (check current AUPSA time window before booking)
AUPSA may require the health certificate to be in Spanish or have a certified Spanish translation. Confirm this requirement with AUPSA before travel.

Living with Pets in Panama
Panama has a well-developed expatriate community, particularly in Panama City’s Marbella, San Francisco, and Clayton areas. Several international-standard veterinary clinics operate in these areas. Panama’s tropical climate means tick and parasite prevention is year-round. Brachycephalic breeds need careful heat management.
Verify current AUPSA requirements before travel. Information accurate as of May 2026.
