Moving Pets to Jordan: Import Permits, Vaccinations, and Amman Airport Process

Jordan is home to a significant expat population around Amman and Aqaba, and the pet import process - while bureaucratic - is navigable with preparation.

Import Permit

Jordan requires an import approval from the Ministry of Agriculture before the animal travels. Apply through the Jordanian Embassy in your home country or via a licensed Jordanian agent. Allow 3-4 weeks minimum.

Arrive with all documents in order. Ministry of Agriculture vets inspect arriving animals in the veterinary inspection area. Present original documents - photocopies are not accepted. If documentation is incomplete, the animal may be held.

Breed Restrictions

Pit Bull Terriers and types that substantially resemble them are prohibited. If your dog is a stocky, muscular breed, carry breed registration papers and a letter from a vet confirming breed identity.

Climate Considerations

Amman is cooler than Gulf cities but summers (June-August) are hot. Airlines may apply cargo embargoes in peak summer. Travel in spring or autumn where possible.
