Hawaiian Airlines allows small pets in the cabin on inter-island flights and some mainland USA routes. However, all pets arriving in Hawaii from outside the state are subject to Hawaii’s mandatory quarantine programme regardless of how they travel. The quarantine requirement is independent of the airline.
Hawaii is a rabies-free state and maintains this status through mandatory quarantine or a 5-day or less release programme. The 5-Day or Less programme allows qualified pets to be released in 5 days rather than 120 days, but requires extensive advance documentation including two valid rabies titres, microchip, specific vaccinations, and OIE-approved laboratory tests. Start preparation at least 4-6 months before travel.
Yes. Hawaiian Airlines accepts pets as checked baggage on mainline aircraft. IATA-compliant hard-sided crates are required for dogs. Temperature restrictions apply - Hawaiian Airlines does not accept cargo pets if temperatures at origin, destination, or stopovers exceed certain thresholds.
For the 5-Day or Less programme: microchip, two rabies vaccinations and two OIE-approved titre tests (the second titre must be at least 90 days before arrival), CDC-approved microchip, a USDA-endorsed health certificate from a USDA-accredited vet, and advance arrival notification to the Hawaii Department of Agriculture.
