Frequently Asked Questions

Gulf Air does not generally permit pets in the passenger cabin on its international routes. Pets travel as checked cargo in the hold. Confirm current policy with Gulf Air for your specific route.

Gulf Air accepts dogs and cats as checked cargo in IATA-compliant crates. Advance booking is required. Confirm your breed is accepted and that your specific route allows live animal cargo before purchasing tickets.

Like other Gulf carriers, Gulf Air applies temperature restrictions that affect live animal cargo acceptance. Bahrain’s summer temperatures can be extreme (above 40C), which typically triggers embargoes on heat-sensitive cargo including live animals. Plan travel outside peak summer months where possible.

Pets entering Bahrain need a health certificate from the origin country (government-endorsed), microchip, rabies vaccination, and an import permit from the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA). Some breeds may be restricted.
