Frequently Asked Questions

Aeroflot’s international route network has been severely restricted since February 2022 due to sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Aeroflot was suspended from SkyTeam and lost access to most Western aircraft, spare parts, and airspace. Most routes to Western Europe, North America, and many other regions are no longer operated. Aeroflot continues to fly to a limited number of destinations from Moscow, primarily to Middle Eastern, Asian, and CIS countries. If your route is not served, you cannot use Aeroflot.

Yes. Before the 2022 route suspensions, Aeroflot accepted small pets (up to 8 kg combined weight including carrier) in the aircraft cabin on many routes. Pets also travelled in the hold as checked baggage. The airline had a well-established pet transport policy. That policy may technically still apply on current routes, but the drastically reduced international network means Aeroflot is not a realistic option for most Western pet owners.

For destinations that Aeroflot served from Western Europe (before suspension), alternatives include Turkish Airlines (hub: Istanbul), Air Serbia (Belgrade), flydubai (Dubai), Royal Jordanian (Amman), and flag carriers of the destination countries that maintain air links. Turkish Airlines has one of the most extensive networks covering former Soviet-era destinations.
